This board is either too PC or enlightened to comment on the race angle on this story, but there surely is one, for better or worse.
Jeremy is the first Asian American male  player to make an impact in US professional basketball.  There is really no precedence for his success in the NBA.  Yao Ming is not comparable -- he is a 7'6" freak of nature from a far away land.

I am guilty i did not even think about his race I wish my parents had raised me to be smarter and more alert of my surroundings.

A month ago I said its way too early to tell....and it still is now....but.....

http://keepingscore.blogs.time.com/2012/03/13/studying-jeremy-lins-rough-new-reality/?hpt=hp_c1

"Lin shot 48% from the field during his February heyday, and he’s now at an ugly 39% during his winless month of March. Not including the Feb. 3 game in which played seven minutes against the Boston Celtics, Lin averaged 22.3 points per game last month. During the six-game losing streak, he has scored 16.2 points per game. His assists are down (from 9.0 to 7.3), but so are his turnovers (5.3 to 3.8)."

"Lin is really a liability on defense. He withers when a player sets a pick on him. Lin has faced four elite point guards over the past few weeks. Deron Williams scored 38 points against him. Boston’s Rajon Rondo recorded an amazing triple double: 18 points, 20 assists, 17 rebounds. Tony Parker of the Spurs repeatedly blew by Lin, and erupted for 32 points. Last night, Derrick Rose lit up Lin and the Knicks for 32 points too. These players all heard the Lin hype, and relished crushing it"

"Lin seems a bit bothered by pesky defenders. Against Miami before the All-Star break, for example, Heat guard Mario Chalmers pressured Lin full court. On Monday night, Rose almost flew out of his shoes, he was so eager to bother Lin from the beginning of the game. The point guard got off to a pretty silent start."

Can't explain why I just read this - must be trying to avoid work

suprised no one suggested David Kidd

The most enjoyable aspect about Lin was not his rise - but how he handled himself - I'm more impressed with that.

Kalen,

Jeremy Lin came out of obscurity to be the starting point guard for the New York Knicks--that's still a heckuva story, even if his numbers are down.  And of course his numbers are down--Carmelo Anthony came back.  Lin has plenty of things to work on--his jumper, cutting down his TOs and his defense.  He's not an elite player in the NBA.  But he can play and he's a winner.  Honestly, he'd be an ideal back-up PG on a good team.  The Knicks are not that.  It never made any sense to have Amare and Melo--one wants to play pick and roll and the other wants to run isolation plays.  They don't mesh.  And now apparently D'Antoni is out.  They're a mess, but Lin has done far more good for them than bad.

Wow!

D’Antoni Resigns as Knicks’ Coach

The tension between Anthony and D’Antoni — and more broadly, between Anthony and the rest of the team — was undermining the Knicks’ cohesion and morale. Most of the team preferred to keep playing the way they were during the so-called Linsanity streak in February, when Lin was initiating the offense.

Kalen,

Nobody argued that Lin was an elite player, only that he was the perfect player for D'Antoni's system. Clearly that system does not work with Anthony in the line-up.

Anthony never seemed like he would be a fit with D'Antoni, Lin or no Lin. Stoudemire should have loved it. In Phoenix he learned what playing with a good D'Antoni-style PG (Nash) could do for his game. But if it's between the coach and the high priced All-Star, I guess we know who wins. The hot streak with Anthony out of the lineup was made to look better than it was by the soft schedule they were playing at the time. It can't be entirely blamed on Anthony; the schedule during this losing streak has been undeniably tougher. But something isn't right there (status quo for the Knicks).

Thought it'd be a good time to revist this 5.5 years later after everything that was said/claimed back during "Linsanity".

-- Since his Knicks flameout he's been mostly role player/off the bench.
-- Only plays for about half the game, MPG
-- Been traded/moved to 4 different teams
-- Career average is 12 points per game, I guessed 10...

But he does have a good FT % ;)

You don't understand (having not read the thread).  Harvard changes you.  Four years among the best and brightest does a number on you.  You change.  You are different.   I can't say for the better.  I can say it happens. Ask Bob Crosby.  I doubt he'd disagree.  I would say in my case, it was a good thing because I was such a country fool, but I could see it going the other way.  Let's just say this: spend four years with the smartest people you'll ever meet and you will come out a different person.  And something you will never repeat in life.  At least I havened.

Todd Hamilton - one great season and he will always have his name on the Claret Jug.

Can’t believe Linsanity was so long ago as to predate my time on GCA.

Todd Hamilton was also the name I kept thinking. One big moment of glory when one exceptional skill (hybrid chipping for Hamilton, right-handed driving for Lin) shined in front of defenses that weren’t ready to stop it (Hamilton was playing a bump-friendly Open setup, Lin was playing defenses that hadn’t scouted him). And both were solid, successful players overall, even if they never reached remotely comparable heights again.

In golf architecture, there are tons of talented people who are struggling to find work at any given moment.  Singling out any one of them would be unfair.
