Looking forward to saying hello to all Sunday. It is winter , but the course is very playable. We are lucky that the sand base here at the shore allows foe winter golf. The heavier soils in Philly tend to hold more water and thus it's tougher to play this time of year.
Lots of Willie Park left at Greate Bay , with a couple redo's by Ron Garl in the 80's that look out of place. We took out two of his holes. 2 & 3 and recreated the original hole he replaced . It plays as two on the card , a long par four from the tips with a devilishly difficult green and second shot. I'll take par against anyone in the field on this one...lol
We built a new par three #16 to replace Garl 's second hole, and it fits quite well. Save for a front bunker with a cape, (my bad) it looks and plays like one of the originals.
The 7th green is vintage Park Jr. and is a fabulous example of his ingenuity. It looks real easy , plays hard. Big circular oval that he employed to advantage at Olympia Fields, another of his US designs. Every quadrant is pin friendly , with different rolls and strategies that effect the 2nd shot. .
Nice punchbowl green on #5 , and lots of false fronts ...think you will have fun. Good news draft beer is $2 for a big frosted mug. , can't beat them.
