JK,
Personal assessments aside, does Wolf Run even make the "Best" list for Nevada?

I'll probably go see the movie The Artist.  I'm sure it will be empty.  It can be a tough standard.

And if you're bored with that ... well, I'll give up!

Try this. It's empty, cheap and great -- and I'll bet you won't be bored: http://tinyurl.com/ceiling-view.

I assumed he was talking about Wolf Run in Indianapolis-ish.  I haven't played it (yet), but from what I've been told, at the national level, it is indeed very cheap.

Can someone explain why everyone thinks empty is a good thing?  I don't want to play a club where getting on is difficult, or the number of people slows things down but golf is a social sport and I like the feel of being one of many out on course and the buzz of a reasonably full bar afterwards.

If you played more golf in America, you'd develop a new appreciation for empty.

So you saw The Artist and loved it?  That is enough for me though I do hope a silent film does not promote talking amongst the patrons.  My fighting days are over on the golf course and while driving but if one more person talks through an entire movie....

Yes. Saw "The Artist" and loved it.

Couldn't agree with you more about talking through movies (or through other supposedly quiet places; I'm at the Mayo Clinic today, and just endured a 15-minute phone call made by some fool talking five times as loud as he needed to).

The theater where I saw "The Artist" was the quietest theater I've been in in many years -- possibly ever. It helped that only about 25 people were there. It helped, too, that the sort of people who would appreciate a black-and-white silent film are not the sort who talk through movies.

See "The Artist" in a movie house. Even the biggest home screen will diminish it.

And really, don't miss that link I gave you: http://tinyurl.com/ceiling-view. Zoom in. Zoom out. Pan around. A great artist would be grateful if you did.

George,

I don't remember any mention of the course on this site. Looks like a fairly nice course w/a moderate price, if you ever find yourself in Reno.

We saw the Artist, and the theatre was almost full.  really enjoyed the movie.

re Great, cheap and empty.   If a great course has cheap rates, it will tend to be empty.
If Kingsbarns charged $50.00 per round, it would be empty.

I have worked with properties whose management insisted on going the cheap route for golf, expecting the revenue generated with rooms and F&B to compensate for low golfing fees - this NEVER works, the golfers prefer to pay more and steer clear of a cheap course.  You can walk onto the New Course (cheap but great) any day.   cheap is not a good marketing route in golf.  Titleist proves it every day.

The Artist was awesome, and if you liked the actor Jean DuJardin, checkout OSS 117. Hilarious.

As for great, cheap, and empty, I've yet to see all three together, but I'll take 2 of 3 on any course.

Besides the carts and houses, I think most people would enjoy Little Mountain.  Good, cheap and empty (on non-outing days).

Longaberger is Good, cheap and empty (pretty much all of the time)

On Golfnow.com, you can play both courses really cheap at times.

I still watch real silent films so The Artist comes off as more of a parody of silents than anything else and it takes a lot of its cues from non-silents like Vertigo, Singing in the Rain and Citizen Kane.  I liked it though.

I did think that Jean DuJardin was fantastic in The Artist and agree with Alex that his OSS 117 films are hilarious, especially the first one. They are streaming on Netflix now.

Great, cheap, and empty...Askernish, Dismal River, Sand Hills (frankly, I don't know if this one is cheap...but I think it is reasonable).

Great and empty...Ballyneal, NGLA (frankly, this one may be cheap...I don't know), Renaissance, Rock Creek.

Very good, cheap, and empty...Musgrove Mill.

Good, cheap, empty...Aiken, Arrowhead Pointe.

Just got back from The Artist.  I thought the dancing was second rate and the lead actress had a face only Carol Burnett could love.  I knew I would not get a sex scene because of the PG-13 rating but was really, really hoping for a murder/suicide after the Romeo and Juliet reference.  My wife came up with a couple of classics both before and after the movie.  I went alone.

When I told her I was going to see a silent film she said "Oh God, who was stupid enough to put their money behind that, I sure hope it wasn't your golf internet buddy."

When I arrived home her first words after confirming that I went to see a silent film were "Ok, so did they F*ck?"

I guess it doesn't play well in Indiana.

I will give it this.  It is the quietest movie audience I have ever experienced.  You had to let your popcorn melt before you could chew.  And...It was wonderfully short.

Your wife is a keeper.

I once told you that anytime you ever made it to Memphis, you had a golf game. That offer is now contingent on your wife coming too.
