Yawn.  Nothing worse than the bowl season. Unless your team is in a big game. Otherwise, it's a joke.

I have a thought:

Brent Musberger gets the call for the broadcast play-by-play man.  Brent Musberger just gets better with age.  He is so fast and accurate with the play-by=play.  When I was a kid, he did national NBA games, and wasn't considered great.  I think Brent Musberger has improved with age more than anybody I can remember.  He's an outstanding choice tonight, the best since Keith Jackson made the calls.

9-6 (OT) in regular season.

9-0 at halftime.  Is this the greatest defensive matchup in college football history?  No touchdowns in three halves.

is it really a "national championship" if the team that wins has already lost to the team they beat???  can it really be a true "national championship" if the two teams playing for it are from the same conference???  bcs is a farce...

I disagree.  Tonight's game reinforces the fact that this year's Alabama team is one of the greatest defensive teams of all time.  They deserved to be selected, and then they dominated.  Clear winer.  21-0.

but they lost to LSU earlier this season...so now what?  a tie-breaker game to determine who the best team really is?

It would be interesting to watch the World Series outcome in mid December after each team took 6 weeks off from the LCS. Or maybe play the Super Bowl in March. Umm, or not. This has always been my biggest gripe with the sport.   I have no team loyalty so this isn't about tonight's outcome. In my opinion the two best team played one another in mid season form and LSU won. If there's no playoff, then someone else should have been given a shot at them tonight, probably Oklahoma State. That would have been an unjust outcome for Alabama as they demonstrated tonight, which is why a playoff is desperately needed. Or at a minimum a championship game without a 6 week delay.

Are you suggesting that a team ranked #2 who ties (in regulation then loses by a field goal in OT) the team ranked #1 shouldn't be #2 still?

You can bet LSU wishes your thinking was  correct so they wouldn't have had to play another SEC team for the championship and could've lit up the scoreboard ;)

a bit ironic that Alabama won the National Champonship, but not the SEC, but this is one of the rare instances where the BCS was better than a playoff as clearly the top 2 teams were in the SEC.
Of course in a proper playoff that could happen as well as long as they didn't do something stupid like say you had to win your conference.
Need proof? How many of the last 10 national Champions are SEC teams?(despite beating up on each other all year)

Ironically they usually play the National Championship in early Dec, in Atlanta, but this year Georgia didn't belong in that equation, or even for consideration for a conference title..
Interestingly, if the SEC divisions were different and Alabama met LSU for the conference title, they wouldn't have met in the National game ;)

I'm all for a playoff.

Lsu vs. Arkansas
Alabama vs.South Carolina(Sorry Georgia but the ONLY  nonconference loss amongst the 5 teams eliminates you)

They could have an NIT for the rest ;D

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :P :P :P :P :P

Bama lost that 1st game becasue theymissed 4 FG's AND had the ball picked off at the goal-line!  LSU was fortunate to barely squeak out an OT win.  Bama is clearly the better team.

It wounds me to give Bama its due.  But there is no denying that they absolutely spanked the team that absolutely spanked everybody else, including two bowl championship winners.  They have the second greatest college defense of all time and despite all the theatrics of the Oklahoma States and Oregons of the world, defense still wins championships.

Agreed--especially the part about a Big Orange fan rooting for Bama.

Think OK State really wants any piece of either one of those defenses?
