A course you plan to play in 2012 and why
« on: January 05, 2012, 02:28:36 PM »
Not a New Year's resolution exactly, but more like a personal goal. What course that you've never played before will you play this year? And what is your reason for wanting to see this particular course?

I'll lead off:
There's a course in my area that purports to be a Donald Ross design, yet may actually be a William Flynn-designed layout. Even though it's in my backyard, I've never played it. This spring, I will.

I'm kicking off this year with a trip to New Mexico to play Black Mesa, Pa-Koo ridge, and the UNM course.

Very much looking forward to the trip!!

P.S.  Whatever became of the 2nd course at BM?  I'm guessing it got nixed with the current economic environment.

First time going to New Mexico
First time for any of those courses.

Should be a great trip!!

P.S.  My reasons for going are:  I've delayed far too long in getting my butt down there to see them.

Old Macdonald in mid-July.  I'm interested to see the scope and width of the place, and the various options one can play off the tee and into greens.

Took care of Bull's Bay Monday.
I have played all of Strantz's courses now except Tot Hill and MPCC.
Bull's Bay was firm and fast and fast.

I'd like to make a trip to go see Jeff Brauer's courses in Northern Minnesota. I've heard great things and they're only a half day's drive away...

Southampton (NY) Golf Club

When I last played it, roughly 15 holes were finished and it was still growing in. Would like to see Brian Silva's finished product.

When the land is already owned, they don't get nixed, they get delayed.
I have no other insight at Black Mesa - other than good choice of a trip.

Friar's Head
Garden City
Piping Rock
Maidstone

The more I learn about the history of American golf, the more I want to get to Long Island. Friar's Head being relatively new, I was hoping to compare it to the classics.

My father and I played Bulls Bay a year ago today; it was awesome.

I hope to play The Ocean Course sometime this year; it'll probably have to be very soon or very late in the year, I imagine.

Only travel plans:

I'll be in St. Simon's / Jekyll Island in March, and plan to play where you guys tell me I should.

Which course(s) would that be?

Prairie Dunes and Kinloch to cash in my Colton marathon prizes

Hoping to make a drive from PD to Sand Hills or vice-versa as part of that trip.

I also really want to play Piping Rock and/or Creek Club, which I will likely do by way of a charity tournament.

I'll bend the rules a bit and say Pinehurst No 2. I've played the golf course before, but not in its new and improved state.

I don't know its name yet. It might be many courses, a few, or one. If plural, they will have one thing in common: my reason for going is that some newfound mate from GCA invited me.

Playing with Tim Martin at Copake last year sold me on this method. No bullshit nor tears: the guys on this site are simply the coolest dudes anywhere and the folks I'd like to hang out with for the rest of the rounds of my days.

Royal County Down and Ballybunion.  I have tried many times to get to Ireland and not made it for various reasons.  Hopefully 2012 will be the year.

Paraparaumu, so I can meet some other GCA'ers in NZ.
