It seems to me that LA North deserves more attention and discussion. The recent work is spectacular. The course within a course and the flexibility is exciting and wonderful. The "Little 17" is wonderful to see in person. Lost has been found on the course and I hope it has raised the bar for other clubs to strive towards.  I know it is an access issue for many sadly so most have not had the honor to have seen it but it is really worth a good study and discussion in my opinion. The Walker Cup in 2017 will really highlight the brilliance in this course I believe and I think many on this site will sing the praises after that presentation (and hopefully even sooner).

Johns Island West... might just be on the best topography in Florida.  I loved it and I'm not alone in thinking it should get more discussion:

I agree. The Country Club is a Top 30 golf course in the country, has hosted many national tournaments, is well known....yet no one talks about it on Golf Club Atlas. Why is that?

Possibly because TCC isn't viewed as a pure 18 hole golf course, rather a hybrid or mongrelized assortment taken from 3 seperate nines, where some of the holes are combinations of holes along with the fact that some of the holes have their tees moved and par changed.

That's about as gimmickie as you can get.

Ridgewood, in NJ also has three nines and yes they mongrelize the course for a PGA event, but, the merits of the individual nines are sufficient enough to qualify the course for a top 100 rating.

What other courses deserve more attention and discussion on GCA?

Surely the changes to TCC are for championships to lengthen the course and create a hospitality area. 11, 12 & 13 are fine holes especially the short drop par 3. I feel I've missed nothing playing the normal rather than championship course & I have played the Primrose set up as well.

Indian Creek in North Miami. As an ultra private Flynn course, I doubt mauch if anything has been changed. I also wonder if Dick Wilson had a hand in it during construction.

Nobody ever posts about one of the dozen most strategic courses built in the last 60 years as Morrissett writes in his profile.

It's maybe the best example of how little effort, and how great reward, is required to adopt links features and principles for any type of course, even or I should say especially modern, cartball courses. Makes you realize just how big the design misses are on so many post-ww2 efforts.

Where do you think the two nines should be ranked ?

What combination of nines do you feel is the best, and where should they be ranked ?

- Somerset (MN)   old school Raynor  (i even like it better than Yale) and one of the best in Minnesota

- Black Sheep --  If I ever move back to Chicago, this is where I would want to play

- Oakland Hills -- great old school course

- Whilsting Straits (Irish course):   Always overlooked, but from a pure golf perspective, think it offers more strategy than its older brother

- Spring Hill (MN)-- probably not discussed because access is so hard, but my favorite Fazio by quite a large margin and the only Minnesota course that could make a legit claim for top 30 US course  (Not saying it should be top 30, but it should be in the discussion)
