Thank you Tom Doak... Post of the Year! 8)
"I said in a talk at the Dunhill Tournament in St. Andrews a few years back that I thought any of the caddies I'd had that week would probably make a good golf course architect. We all want to ask golfers of all abilities to get more out of their games -caddies do that for a living." T.Doak

The most important people in golf.............the public Joe beer golfers.
They are the ones keeping the game semi-alive.
Without them, and we all know how they are diminishing in numbers, there would be no one else to put on the list.

In UK and Ireland it would the chair of the Irish state's 'Bad Bank' NAMA. They have a high profile portfolio of courses as it is and if it follos the pattern of other property sectors they probably have an even more significant portfolio of secured 'bad loans' on other courses that they could call in.

I didn't know he had recently died.....I mention him because China is obviously one of the main regions of the globe where the game is growing rapidly.  Chu has been instrumental in the growth and promotion of golf in China, with his world's largest golf development, his WGC event, etc.  If the list was just top 10 or top 15 most important people in golf, I could see excluding him.  But if the list extends beyond that, one might make an argument for him being a part of it.
