Roads named after Architects
« on: December 07, 2011, 03:37:59 PM »
Thought of this topic when I saw this Tom Simpson street sign at the small French coastal village of Hardelot where I am currently working on his course .

Any other roads named after (famous) golf architects?

Well, I've seen many a Palmer, Nicklaus, and Norman surrounding courses they built, but does that really count?

I think I've seen a Trent Jones Drive somewhere, now that I think about it. Actually, I think it was at Cape Schanck in Australia.

This is a case for http://maps.google.com!

Type in, slowly, the street you're looking for, and Google will display all the possibilities in the U.S. of A.

Bunch of "Donald Ross," "Ben Crenshaw" streets, ways, lanes, circles, boulevards, etc.

A "Charles Blair MacDonald (sic?) Road," in Scottsdale.

No "Tom Doak"s, yet.

Frank, You trump all of them. Don't you have the Pont du Gard in France?

If you are visiting Carolina Golf Club for the first time, please be aware that the club entrance is no longer off of said Donald Ross Rd., but rather on the other side of the property, off of Old Steele Creek Rd.  (And "no," there are no plans that I know of to change the name of the club to "The Club on Old Steele Creek.")

The club where I was the pro was part of a residential community. Its street names were Raynor Court, Tillinghast Drive, MacKenzie Lane, Maxwell Drive, Ross Drive, Morris Court, and Neville Lane. I always assumed when I was there that maybe 5% of the residents knew why their streets had their names.

I-95 has an exit in Palm Beach County for Donald Ross Rd., but that is named for a military hero and not the architect of nearby Seminole GC.
