Try their web site:
http://www.truebluegolf.com/

There's a few pics on the main pages, but go to the interactive scorecard link to see overheads and other pics of every hole.

Aaron & Scott,

I thought you both would like to hear this.  Aaron because you asked, and Scott we had talked about this a couple weeks ago.

I was able to get out to Bulls Bay on a business trip to Charleston back a week or so ago.  And it was great.  I really loved the golf course.  And yes Aaron, Strantz took it quite a bit easier on the wild shapes and contours at Bulls Bay.  I was wondering what his first private offereing would be like.  It was great, I would love to be a member there and play it more often.  That is the best compliment I can give it at this time after seeing it once.  He obviously didnt have to do quite as dramatic / wild contouring as they are not trying to capture the attention needed to bring in the "one day" crowd.

I dont have enough time to go into it now, but maybe later I can get some time and go into more detail.  Maybe I will start a Bulls Bay thread later this weekend or something.

You've got me interested in Bulls Bay for at least two reasons:

a) I need to get back to Charleston
b) it seems like this place has been kept awfully quiet

True Blue opened to a lot of fan fare.  So did Royal New Kent and Tobacco Road.

I realize only Bulls Bay is private and that might account for things, but is anything else at play?  Why haven't we heard more about it?

Daryl, why do you have that picture of Brett Favre in your post?  Are you also a Packers fan ;D

Tim, perhaps all the hoopla Stranz was picking up a few years ago was working against him,  from his own perspective.  Maybe he wanted to have a quiet time to work and create and allow the evaluation to proceed based on less than bombastic hyperbole.  But, I'm not surprised that he will do great work in a more understated setting.  New Caledonia isn't exactly chopped liver.  I hope that they documented the building of Bulls Bay and that it will leak out little by little.  So far all I saw was a picture of Stranz gallopping across the property designing from horseback, looking like Buffalo Bill.  He does have a style about him... 8)

I'm surprised we don't hear from Dan King, because I thought he, Mike Strantz, and former Milwaukee Brewer Gorman Thomas were triplets separated at birth.  ;)

Dick Daley:

Interesting point about Strantz.  I still regret he didn't make our outing a few years back.

His story does seem interesting.  Beyond the travel life, it sounds like he wanted to breakout from the more conservative approach of the Fazio organization.  And he sure did that.

But, then it seemed like things got repetitive, at least that's how I felt about Tobacco Road after Royal New Kent.

Still, he seems like an interesting guy to follow.

True Blue, by the way, has some holes I liked (the numbers escape me), but I didn't like the finish.  It seems like these holes are difficult at the expense of being interesting.

Tim,
When did you play True Blue?  It has been softened some - the course was shut down for the summer of 2000 to do this work in addition to changing the greens to TifEagle.

I'm going to go right out on a limb here and let you all saw me off and say that I don't like the second picture link offered by Scott.  Thaat jagged retaining wall of RR ties or timbers sucks!  I also didn't like what I saw at THF when it came to an over use of rock walls for everything from green surrounds, bunker walls, to water hazard retention rip-rap.  But that is just me and my aversion to such over use of said materials.

Scott,

True Blue was was one those projects I kept my eyes on and so I played it within a month of the opening.

I'm at a complete loss as to what year that was.

Ture Blue opened early 1998.

Sounds the same for me when Tobacco Road opened.  I drove down (< 1 hour) within the first few months it opened.  Didn't happen at Tot Hill Farm, though.  A little further away, and hasn't gotten stellar reviews here.  I still may try it some day, though.

After all, I liked Stonehouse a lot, and others here aren't too high on it.  At Stonehouse, modify the 8th green and open up the approach to #14 (or widen the green to the right and back), and Stonehouse is up there with Tobacco Road, IMH but sometimes wrong O.

Hey Dick,

My cousin Daryl just started another fresh thread on Bulls Bay since this one seemed to be heading that way.

Well I better run, coach wants us in bed early tonight for the big game tomorrow.

Brett Favre.
