Good for him. He needs to get out there and play in order to get better and implement his swing changes. It will be great for the tournament as well with the increased attention.

If true, here's the transparent reason why TW is playing this specifc tourney -- courtesy of SI's Alan Shipnuck:

I too thought it was about Woody Austin.

However, wouldn't Woods really be playing to try to get himself on the President's Cup team?

Woods is already on the team. Couples picked him the other day.

Missed that. Thanks.

Las Vegas was hoping he would play in their tournament.  He won his first tournament here, and crowds would have been magnified.  He may not have come back partially because of his off-course history in the recent past.

I'm sure Tiger is not the first player to do something like that, I see nothing wrong with it.

If he sprays his drives at Cordevalle, there's a few holes where he'll never find it again without a machete.

And Tiger was scheduled to be in the area anyway as he is hosting the inaugural Tiger Woods Invitational, a fund-raising event for his foundation, Oct. 11-13 at Pebble Beach.
