Does it really matter who is on the leaderboard ? Surely what matters is the standard of golf. I've seen very little of the coverage so far unfortunately so can't comment on how good the golf is but I've got to think its refreshing seing some of the lesser lights playing better than the others.

I'll watch as much as I can, but I think it's undeniable that if Mickelson goes on a front-nine birdie binge like he did at the Open, everyone's attention level will spike a bit.

Am I a golfer? Not sure what that has to do with anything. I'm a guy watching a golf tournament and find myself falling asleep during play and waking up for commercials. Yes, bland. In the same vein as Shaun Micheel, Ben Curtis, et al. As for Feherty, he has the same credibility as a sideshow freak after making the observation that there's nothing wrong with Tiger's swing.

If Dufner, Bradley or Steele make it, we will all be treated to endless golf channel pundits opining that this is the proto-type golfer of the future.

After Louis Ouisthazen, Schwartzl, Kymer won, all we heard is how these are guys that have the perfect swing, so pure and natural, or technically bullet proof, then they fade.

No one is talking about Hansen or Karlson, and wouldn't it be just like the McKeel, Curtis episodes where one of them win, and they haven't even shown 5 of their golf shots all week.  Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they show 10 of Tiger's shots, 2 days after he went home.

Yeah, I'm going to root for home boy Stricker, or if not him, Verplank, even Toms again.  I think one of those veterans winning will at least place some higher credibility or bona fides that to win a major should take talent through experience and precise skill; not raw one-hit wonder, week of lightening in a bottle, falsely proclaimed future of golf winner, that the pundits have to struggle to rationalize the instant success.

Don't get me wrong, I love watching a Rory, Schwartzl, Louis, Martin, Kim as they develop.  But, if it is a major, I'd like to see a golf course design/set-up and player sort of come together in identifying more than the lightening in a bottle one great week.   I'd like to see the venue ferret out the great aspects of an all around great player who has earned it with perseverance and paid the dues, so to speak.

Maybe the ACC, particularly last 4 holes in a tournament venue sort of way will still give us the interesting contrast of veteran vs upstart as a study of what the pro game is all about.

It may not be the leaderboard we all wish to see but these guys are awesome golfers and are playing the best this week. Great careers have to start somewhere and who know's right now if one of these guys will go on to win 10 majors in the future and be Hall of Famers.......ps. it is not their fault the experienced/exciting/charismatic/sexy golfers are playing garbage this week is it? ;)

Perhaps there is more chance this afternoon of a trainwreck than a 64 winning it, although Allenby is 5 under through 14. Never seen the course in person but it does look very tough.

By the time this one's over, it could challenge the record for fewest shots seen on TV by a winner.  Someone will probably hang a number and let the last couple groups choke it away.  Someone like John Senden, perhaps.

Exactly as I predicted.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

the winner's going to have as many majors as the much celebrated US open winner.

Score one for Rees-great drama down the stretch.
How is this different than the TPC? (a course which I believe is highly overated on this site)

Well, I'm not snoozing...

Upstarts it is.  Veterans not so much.

Before teeoff of the playoff, one would think Bradley has the mo, after regrouping off 15 disaster.

Golf Digest seemed to do a minor feature with the right player last week.

Dufner may not have the crazy eyes and intense stare, but somehow he reminds me of Ray Floyd.

Keegan is certainly more of a sunshine and lollipops sort of kid.

I hope they have a good playoff and it doesn't turn out to be a war of attrition and the highest playoff over par ever...  :-\

I hope this really wasn't glory's last shot for Strick and Verplank.

Sounds like you better tell his pop to make sure he is at the 5th major!   ;D 8)

Just don't let him go out and break a leg on the slopes at JH.

If he wins, you should have a chef make up a special Keegan Bradley Irish Stew.  Or a signature drink!  A Boston Whaler, Boston Strangler or Beantown Bomber... You figure out the concoction of juice.

He is looking golden on 17!   8)

Glory's last forgettable shot. Tough tour course but a bit of a mutt leaderboard. I feel for Dufner who looks to be physically and emotionally spent.

Dufners situation reminds me of Mike Donald at the 1990 US Open...I wanted DOnald to win cause i dont think he ever had such an opportunity and dont think he had one afterwards...
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!

On the walk to the ball, will Keegan's caddie bust every club shaft in the bag except the wedge and putter?  ;D ::) 8)

Did anyone like that choice, 6I 193 over water, 2 shot lead?  Not me so much... but I guess I"m just old.  Depends helps with the ball in the air, seemed like a long hang time!  ;D

Dufner showed some spunk though.

Rees design for the big toon-a-mint gains some cred.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I am enjoying this tournament. Tomorrow will be a great test of nerves and the final 4 holes hold tons of excitement. For once, you have to hit the ball in the fairway. The par 3, 15th I think it is, is a real challenge for the pros, just like for us normal guys, and it's kind of fun watching these guy hit it in the water.

Well, once in a great while predictions do come true.

It was a great tournament, full of excitement, eagles, burdies, triples. You could feel these for all these players, the nerves, the final 4 hole setup, 3 cheers for the golf course and golf!!!!!!!!!!

And the rest of the country says .... yawn. Bland course with a forgettable leaderboard = no viewers. I'm surprised the PGA Tour management hasn't offered to pick up the cost of a week-long golf clinic for Tiger to help him get his game back.

No Tiger = interest comparable to a Professional Bowlers Association event.

Overnight ratings down 14% for PGA Championship

According to the Sports Business Journal, CBS had a 4.3 overnight Nielsen rating for Keegan Bradley's playoff victory over Jason Dufner on Sunday. That's a 14-percent drop from the 5.0 rating the tournament earned last year, when Martin Kaymer defeated Bubba Watson in a playoff and Dustin Johnson was penalized for grounding his club in a bunker on the 72nd hole.

The numbers are down a whopping 43 percent, however, from 2009's 7.5 rating, when Tiger Woods lost to Y.E. Yang at Hazeltine.
