Albany play date Friday 8/12
« on: August 09, 2011, 11:52:34 AM »
Anyone want to get together on Friday for a round in the Albany area?

Left to my own devices, I would probably play 18 at Devereux Emmet's Mechanicville Country Club (1909), a 9 hole track north of Albany that I have never played, but would fit well into my "year of Dev Emmet".  The course is also noteworthy for one of the more minimalist web presences you'll find.  http://www.mechanicvilleny.com/mechanicvillecc/default.htm

It's supposed to be a beautiful day, and anyone who would like to get together and has any other suggestions would be great.

I have some family issues which are keeping me off the course for a bit, so sorry I can't join you.  I didn't even know there was a Mechanicville Country Club?  Certainly Devereux Emmet seems to have had the Captial District architect business cornered at one time.

I don't know if their are any other local GCAer's but we should meet for a round.

Any local place you haven't played but would like to?  I should be able to arrange it.

Dan,

Your offer to arrange access is very generous, thank you.

I've played only a handful of the private courses in the area, and would love to play most of them, especially the Dev Emmet ones: Schuyler Meadows, Edison Club (played 18 of 27), Mohawk.  BUT, if it would be possible to arrange some GCA outings, even mini ones, that's the way I'd like to see these courses.

Sorry to hear that you've been off the course due to the personal issues.  Hope those resolve themselves well.

Guys-My recent sojourns to the Albany area have been to go to the New York Football Giants training camp. Unfortunately that ship has sailed for 2011. I`m in Hartford and would be interested in hooking up.  I have heard good things about the Reese Jones designed Olde Kinderhook. Come on David you have to branch out. ;)

Tim,

In fact, I recently posted how I'd heard Olde Kinderhook is a fine course, and it too is on my list, based on my list of Contemporary architects whose work I want to see.

I'm hoping Paul Cowley will make it up here so I can check out Orchard Hills with the archie, and mark one off the list.

Can you make it up to OK Friday?

I don't think any of those are an issue too arrange.  We'll try and set as date once things clear up for me.  Are there others in the area or who would like to make a trip to play.  A possible 36 hole day at a coule of them.

Olde Kinderhook was very nice.  No membership of note has had the course declining in condition the last few years when I played it.
