Guess The Course: Green fee paid for first correct answer!
« on: August 05, 2011, 04:44:25 AM »
Courtesy of my design colleague, Gary Johnston here at European Golf Design, here is what we think is a pretty challenging 'guess the course' quiz.

I will pay the green fee to play the course for the first correct answer...but you'll have to pay your own way there!

Good luck!

I was going to guess Iceland but then thought I should try and remember which countries Gary is working in at the moment... Doesn't look like Morocco though... I'll go with somewhere in Northern Russia / Finland...

Askernish would be my guess if Adam hadn't guessed.

My first guess was going to be Harris but I'm going to say Iona? I own her, if that's the clue?

Cheers,

James

Looking at the photos of the Iona Golf Course, I reckon Boony has hit the nail right on the head!

Congratulations Mr. Boon!  It is Iona Golf Course.  To claim your prize please collect photographic evidence of your round together with a receipted green fee.  Either that, or i'll just buy you a pint at Cavendish next Sunday luch time...which is probably worth more!

Here is the link to the club website.  Looks like a lot of fun.  Love the idea of a 166 yard Par 4.

Robin,

My honeymoon was on Mull, so we had a trip to Iona. I was tempted to wander over and look at the course but decided to give it a miss as this was after all my only ever trip to Scotland without clubs!  ::)  I wish I had wandered over as it looks great from that picture. If I mention to my wife I need to get photographic evidence of a round of golf there, she'll probably be keener to go than me. As you say, a pint at Cavendish is probably worth more but perhaps I'll hang on for the green fee as a damn good excuse to go back!

Cheers,

James

Looks cool Robin & Gary - congratulations

Is it a short 4?
The green looks a safe distance from the sand, slope and rocks.
How is the better player challenged?

Cheers

Mike

I should just clarify that neither Gary or I have any connection with the course. Gary just took a photo on his weekend there.  I think this may be the 3rd hole, a par 3 of 168 yards, judging by the info on the card, but I don't know any more about it than that, except that the greens are about 10ft by 10ft!

Happy birthday Eric!

Thanks, Robin.

I'm curious, are the little white things growing in this green the same as what Mac was describing at Askernish? This one does look a tad bit slow!

Two sets of holes with crossing fairways. 166 yard par 4. Quirk and then some. Looks to be loads of fun.

That looks pretty wild.  Reminds me a bit of the old course at Portsalon when I first saw it in 1983 ... especially the daisies!
