I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Here is a pretty extensive course review.  Crossing my fingers big time this can be picked up and kept going.  Always loved the look of the place from what I could discern in the photos.

300 of us should pool about $5k each and buy the place. Then kick in $2k a year dues for an operating budget. Put the place back on its feet and supplement dues with controlled outside play... like the UK clubs. When the economy turns around we build a few cottages and lease them back to members & guests.

Wow.  I had not heard this.  I've been to Madison a bunch lately, but had missed this.  Hopefully something good will come out of it; too special of a track to be closed.

I played out there in late June or early July and was really concerned about this possiblity.  Yes, it was a weekday, but I was the only person out on the course and the only person on the tee sheet for the entire day as far as I could tell.  The conditioning wasn't looking good (crabgrass and clover everywhere) so you could tell they were hurting.  It's too bad, it really is a fun course to play.

Guys,
Dd not want to say anything for a few more weeks but we are in there right now.  we acquired the RE. Around the course a few months ago and presently we have closed the course and are fertilizing, spraying, and getting it ready for spring.  waiting on a survey and then will have much more news.

I really hope this place can get back up and running again.  I loved Long Shadow when I played a couple of years ago--the green complexes there are just dynamite!  Best of luck to Mike Young and everyone else involved.

Damn... I thought we might be able to steal the place.

Look luck, Mike. I'll be there for the re-opening BBQ, cause if you're involved I know there will be BBQ.  ;D

If that BBQ shack in Madison caters, I might have to be there.  That might be the best pulled pork I've ever had.

That's great news.   Will Rymer be working behind the counter or driving a gang mower?

I played there in May 2010 and it was shabby but the greens were fine and it played nice and firm, just lots of weeds out of play.   I'm sure Mike will have it ready for the fall season.

Great to hear.  Good luck to Mike and crew.  Never made it over to play Long Shadow, but it looks like a may still have the chance.

Can someone let me know the name/location of the famous BBQ shack in Madison?

Jason,

It's on 441 a couple miles North of 20, just before you get into Madison proper.  The BBQ is in a brown shack on the right side--not even sure if it has a name, just a classic place with homemade pulled pork and brunswick stew.  Those are the types of places that serve the best BBQ--not the chains (although Dinsosaur is good for what it is), but the mom and pop operations that dot the small towns in the Southeast.

Have played Long Shadow several times, loved it!

BTW, how is the project in Nicauragua going?  Going out there probably next year, will it be ready?

Mike,
Good luck with the plan. I was hoping to take my son down for a round before school started back up, but it is good to hear that your hard work will be salvaged. Looking forward to hearing the reopening date and coming down for a visit.

I was going to say "damn."

Then I was going to say "I'm in."

Now I'm left with saying "Good luck to Mike Young and Long Shadow."  I loved playing there.  Great green complexes.

Really good to hear that Longshadow is going to make it after all.  My father and I were lucky to have played the front nine while the back was being built and ever since, I've hoped to get back there to see all 18.  I'm glad that I will eventually be able to do so.
