Bill,
The last time the Ryder Cup was played on a traditional course was 1981 when a powerful US team thrashed the Europeans. We were not then in the habit of winning Ryder Cups, with a losing streak going back to 1957 at Lindrick and only two victories prior to that, 1933 at S&A and 1929 at Moortown. Since 1981 we've been to The Belfry four times, Valderrama, K-Club and Celtic Manor and the Europeans have won 5 encounters, tied 1 and lost 1. It seems to show that the Europeans play better on non-links or heathland courses.
Best wishes to you,
Mark.
