You would never see this in the US. I would love to see links golf on tv more than once a year.

Jeff Warne is being modest. He hits 250 yard 6-irons for breakfast.  He's long. Even with the tired old Pro-V1. ;)

The European Tour play about 2 more links courses a year than the PGA Tour.

I do occasionally turn on the Golf Channel during breakfast before heading out to the golf course on a Saturday or Sunday. The Euro Tour plays at least as many mud pits per year as the PGA Tour, probably more.

Mike,

I didn't want to assume too much from the 3-4 courses I see per year. Thanks for letting me know it's not just that Golf Channel chooses to show the boggy ones!

The worst ever was playing the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor while several miles west lies Royal Porthcawl in its fast and firm linksiness!

Bill,

The last time the Ryder Cup was played on a traditional course was 1981 when a powerful US team thrashed the Europeans. We were not then in the habit of winning Ryder Cups, with a losing streak going back to 1957 at Lindrick and only two victories prior to that, 1933 at S&A and 1929 at Moortown. Since 1981 we've been to The Belfry four times, Valderrama, K-Club and Celtic Manor and the Europeans have won 5 encounters, tied 1 and lost 1. It seems to show that the Europeans play better on non-links or heathland courses.

Best wishes to you,

Mark.

I know that, Mark, and I know it's all about the sponsorship money.   I'm just a disgruntled fan venting because I'd love to see the Ryder Cup played on a traditional links.

Did I read we may see you at the Buda?  I hope so, would love to have a visit.

Cheers,
Bill

Bill, I'll show up, but I won't play as I am totally uncompetitive these days. But I might play in one of the side shows. I'll be staying with Patric Dickinson's daughter, so I'll try and bring her along to something. Mark.

Do you have a special Golf Channel that the rest of us don't get?  The one where the European Tour plays links courses?
