And the "Real" Sheridan Park GC in Tonawanda NY.  The town sold the land upon which holes 3-8 sat to a developer.  Replaced the holes with uninspired stuff and the course is nowhere near as good as it once was.

As I understand it the Himalayas hole at Prince's played from around what is now the 2nd tee of the Hims nine to near the current 8th green of the Hims nine.

If you look up towards the 9th green from down by that 8th green you can still see the shape of two monumental bunkers that you originally had to drive over to get to the green, but it's my understanding that that wasn't the famous "Himalayas" hole.

Perhaps Jamie might chime in and confirm or deny.

I belong to The CC at Woodmore which is Prince George's CC in a new location.  The old course was reputed to have been an excellent old Donald Ross course.  Wish I had seen it.

Tommy - The Ross course was probably just 9 holes. In 1927, Wm Flynn designed an 18-hole course over the top of Ross's; it remained intact until PGCC moved to Woodmore. I visited the site a few years ago and although it takes some imagination to visualize the old course, a few of Flynn's hole corridors are still visible in a wooded area east of the clubhouse.

Dan...great nod to Sheridan...that one ties CCB/Grover for one sector of my list HNLE (holes no longer exist). I would love to see/play the original 1912 US Open track at Main & Bailey, the one that both Travis and Ross had a hand in, the one that held the only par six ever used in Open championship history. The course used to trace down to Winspear & Bailey and was quite interesting.

I'd like to see The Belfry USA, the course that lines a bit of both sides of highway I-90 in Rochester, NY. The course opened for a round or two for investors, but never to the public. You still see the corridors when you drive either direction. This all happened in the early 2000s.

Scott - yes you're right. I believe the hole Bill refers to is the 8th and the Himalaya bunker was flattened. I guess it was a par 5 of around 450 but the approach would have been blind. The one you are thinking of and the one I showed Bill was the 11th (there is an illustration of the tee shot in Darwin's book).

Funnily enough they've renamed the refurb’d greenside bunker on that hole (current 9th, old 11th) as Sarazen’s bunker in memory of the 1932 Open win with his newly invented sand wedge. Paddy Harrington is there this week for some promo stuff and some pictures with that very wedge (he being a Wilson Staff player like The Squire was).

Regarding that bunker, it’s been redone with vertical sleepers with stacked turf in between; not seen that anywhere else but looks great.

A few more outside the US are Tokyo-Asaka (Alison), CC of Havana (Ross), St. Andre (Colt) and St. Peters (Park). They were all considered one of the best courses the designer ever built. I'm not sure if St. Peters-Mablethorpe was ever completed.

That resort course out in Norco in SoCal sounded cool.
Also heard good things about the original El Caballero.
One I didn't miss but many did was the original Bayonet course at Fort Ord. Don't think there were many like it or will be.

Beavertail in Jamestown, RI., a Tillinghast design.  If you're not familiar with Jamestown it is an island in Narragansett Bay off of Newport.  The site of the course was on a bluff above the rocks leading down to the bay.  About 10-15 years ago Brad Faxon was to consult on bringing the course back to life, I believe 9 holes, but unfortunately never came to fruition.
