Atlanta GCA Summer get together
« on: May 28, 2011, 04:31:36 PM »
Any interest in a summer GCA get together?

Anyone have any venues in mind or access to a venue that would generate some interest?

Open to any and all suggestions!

Let me know, would be happy to coordinate.  We had a group of about 20 this past week at Rivermont, it was a blast, we need to do it again!

Do you want to stay in Atlanta or travel outside the city a bit?

A reasonable drive does not bother me at all, especially on a weekend.

Got something in mind?

Well, I'm thinking about courses with architectural interest.  Most of those in the city of Atlanta are private, we could certainly pull something off in those regards...but some good public golf is just a short drive away.

Arrowhead Pointe
Cuscowilla (open to the public T-Th)
Long Shadow
Aiken Golf Club (a bit of a drive)

Longshadow / Cuscowilla are two solid courses, and the cottages at Cuscowilla are really nice for four golfers.

All great venues, one possibility might be a 36 hole day at Long Shadow, certainly would be affordable and what a great layout.  Arrowhead Pointe, we could do the same.    My only problem with Cuscowilla is bang for buck and frankly having played the course twice, the forecaddy thing gets old fast. Are they still required?

I am also going to check with my club, Eagle Watch, and see what they can offer.  It is a wonderful, scenie Arnold Palmer layout, the conditions are superb right now and it is a very scenic, sporty layout with some very interesting holes.

Some great suggestions Mac, anyone else have ideas?

Eric...

Another thought, make it more than a one day affair.

Drive out to, say, Arrowhead Pointe, early in the am.  Play 18.

Head up to Catechee, play 18, stay the night there, play 18 again the morning.

Hit Rivermont or St. Ives on the way back in to town.

We can always alter the courses on that roster, but keep the traveling  road show theme in order.

I would be game for that.  Would be happy to set something like this up.   Maybe like a Monday, Tuesday thing or a Thursday, Friday?

What say others here, any interest in someting like this, mid summer?
