Andy:

I agree w you -- the summer wind at Old Macdonald makes such holes more interesting -- especially the 4th. The issue with wind is really the intensity -- the good thing about Old Macdonald is that there are holes where cross wind situations do happen.

Travis:

Cranwell is a good layout but let's not get carried away -- it would sniff a top 15 position in The Bay State -- maybe a top 20 and that's a maybe given the competition.

Agreed with you regarding the Berkshires in the background.

Travis,

Haven't played Cranwell in ages. From what I hear they have done a nice job but in peak season a bit pricey. Should have made a left off the pike and played Wyantnenuck or gone straight and played Stockbridge.

Pittsfield is probably my least favorite of the private courses in the Berkshires. Definitely a fun course, but since I am not there that often I would play the others for my round a two a year in the Berkshires.

Travis:

My point on Cranwell is that if one is local to the area - you play the course.

Those traveling from outside 100+ miles -- not worth the charge for the fuel -- to and fro.

One other thing -- fine spa there. Wife loved that part.

resort is on the national register of hitoric hotels.

It is also in the small luxury hotels of the world circle.

Staying there alone is worth it....and like you said, there is a spa for the wives !!!!!!

Travis:

The difficult thing for many in the northeast is the access issue.

MA's top courses, just like NJ, are littered with private clubs. The public side in each state is good -- far better than either NY or Pennsy but still the golf is still set aside for those who either know someone or can get introduced in some form or fashion.
