Cabin Fever Parts 4 and 5: now in wrap-up mode!
« on: March 16, 2011, 09:02:48 PM »
Let the fun commence!  Here are the opps for this weekend:

Saturday:  looking for people to play at Berkleigh GC, a neat Robert White design in Kutztown.  It used to hold an LPGA tourney (yes, damning with feint praise), but is still pretty good.  The bones are still there.  This will be great value for a post St. Patrick's Day gathering, late morning start:

St. Patty's Weekend Special at Berkleigh

Thursday March 17th through Sunday March 20th

$30.00 for Cart, Green Fees,  A Draft Beer and Corned Beef Special or Reuben Sandwich

Sunday:  again Cobb's Creek is on display.  Maybe some of you that continue to say you want to see it will put your money where your mouth is.  ;)

This will be a mid-morning round with Kris S, up from FLA.  Me, the food critic, to lead the dining afterwards in Upper Darby.  Perhaps the dumpling place is in order!

PM me if you wish to partake.

I'm in for Sunday.  I've had my fill of modern architecture here in HHI, and I'll need to get it out of my system.

It is your birthday and you are not playing golf?  Oh my!

We have a 10 am tee time at Cobb's on Sunday and currently need one more.  Another tee time can be secured on Sun if needed.

Tee time will be made for Berkleigh on Saturday in the morning.  Planning something around 11 am.  Photo album of Berkleigh here:

I have two tee times reserved at Berkleigh Saturday morning (11:20 and 11:30 AM).  Currently there are three of us playing.  Let's fill this thing out and enjoy a nice round then a sandwich afterwards at the grill, all for 30 bucks.  What a deal.

Still need one more for the 10 am round Sunday at Cobb's.  And the price is right (18 bucks).

The tee time on Sunday at Cobb's is full.  But we can always take more if needed.

Only two thus far for Berkleigh for Saturday.  Me and Mystery Guest.

See you guys, Sunday!

Kelly,

One of the reasons we like to take people to Cobbs in the winter is exactly for that reason;  with the leaves off the trees and the undergrowth not started yet, you can actually see the great landforms of the old abandonded holes and some people even realize we aren't completely crazy!  ;)

Joe,

I'm in for Sunday at Cobbs. I may be able to make Saturday at Berklleigh. Thanks again for continuing the fine offerings of the cabin fever Executive Trail!

Cheers,
Kris

What was the length of Cobbs when it opened from the back tees?

I cannot make either game this weekend.  And I need some time away from Cobbs for my Cobb inflicted wounds to heal.  It beats me up every time.

I've canceled one of the two times on Saturday at Berkleigh due to a lack of people interested!  Too bad.  I still have one slot available though at 11:20 AM.

Mark,

It opened at around 6200 yards, which was quite long for 1916.   It got expanded to close to around 6500 for the US Publinks.

Just think how much more visible those landforms were back in 1937 at Berkleigh, as this aerial shows the lack of trees:

Berkleigh was just 9 holes then, which is the current back nine.

Mark

I don't understand it. Last time I played it on Friday I hit driver 8-iron, and in summer I have hit driver wedge. The tee shot presentation is magnificent, I like the way it sets up. I like to tee on the far right side of the tee box and hit away from OB but with a fade to catch the downhill slope toward the green. Our scorecard Friday did not reflect the change in par. It is hard to speculate on how the change came about. I doubt seriously there were many if any complaints from the players.

Agreed Kelly.  I hit a wedge the last time I played it.  I love that tee shot thats partially bling with a speed slot if you can catch the back side.  10-14 is my favorite stretch on the course without any doubt.

I ALWAYS bite off more than I can chew and clip the large sycamores that hug the inside of the dogleg.  Its very deceptive off the tee and you always think the corner is closer than it looks.  Its usually not jail if you bite off too much though off the tee and punching down to the layup area is usually possible unless you get really unlucky.
