Cabin Fever Part 3: both 4somes complete! Thanks.
« on: March 10, 2011, 09:15:40 AM »
The best time to see Cobb's in terms of seeing old corridors is now when the leaves are gone.  I have a tee time at 10 AM Sunday at a very good price ($18).  Currently Kyle is part of the group and Cirba is positively maybe.

First that wants the 4th slot gets it!

Ugh I'd be there but I'm Hilton Head starting Saturday.  No dice.

Please report back JNC if there are any good executive courses down there.

Of course, all of this is predicated on the assumption that the course will not be under 4 feet of water after we get another projected several inches of rain today.  :(  ;)

I'm also playing on early Saturday afternoon with GCAer John Shimony.  And we'll likely be visiting a wonderful Mexican restaurant in Upper Darby beforehand.  Two spots open for the festivities on Saturday.

And I've talked to the supe at Cobb's and they got steady rain today, but he thinks they'll be fine this weekend.  And they cut the greens for the first time this season just yesterday.

Please come join us on either day.  A great time will be had, guaranteed.  PM me if you want to join in.

Joe,

I'm in for Sunday if it hasn't been swooped up or the course flooded.

Joe,

I am up for a history lesson on Saturday. Have not played Cobb's Creek in ages.

Works out well. I have needed to run an errand in Manayunk which I can accomplish on the way. Not sure about Lunch.

Great Malcolm.  If you want to join John and me for lunch, we'll meet at Cobbs at 11:15 and drive the mile or so to the restaurant in one car.

Mike T fills out the group on Sunday morning.

Still one slot for Sat!

If you are too shy to ask for the slot here, simply go to EZLinks.com under Tee Time Specials and grab the last spot for Saturday's time at 12:45 PM for a whopping $18.15!

I'm sorry, do I need to bone up tonight too? I was going to retire semi-early.

Who  is Mr. NGLA?

I'd like to see some discussion about how Chief Bender would have played the course when he pitched for the Philadelphia Athletics, and I would like to hear about how it influenced his golf course architecture career.  I know there's one old par three at Lakeside CC in Penn Yan that bears resemblance to the current 6th at Cobbs Creek.

GCA needs a moment of silence for the closing of El Rinconcito.  Where has server DIana gone?!

But, from the ashes rises another cheap, but wonderful, dining experience at Don Memo in Upper Darby!

Have you finished your torta Malcolm?

Joe,

You know damn well that I finished that Torta with relish and that John ate his in seconds as well.

You have the receipt and therefore should trumpet the new restaurant name so all can know!!

I'm craving another one, bread to die for.

In our round today at Cobb's Creek, the shot of the season for my eyes was executed on the par 4 13th.  From I'm guessing about 140 yards out, Peter holed out.  Pretty neat as he hit a little cut short iron to a back pin, and it landed a little left of middle and the ball rolled gently in!

That green is one I rarely hit. It is narrow and sloped from the left. It also sits out in the open with little visual clues. Nice shot Peter!

Our 'new' restaurant near Cobb's in Upper Darby is Don Memo.  You can tell from above M2 loved his torta, and John actually never left the place and volunteered to wash dishes in exchange for dos tortas for dinner!

Mike and I had some ceviche and other some tacos.  Yummmmm.

Then a moment of silence was had as we passed by the closed El Rinconcito.  :(

I have never been to Mexico but that torta rivaled one I had at a Florida joint my Spanish speaking friend called the most authentic Mexican restaurant he's been to outside Mexico.  It's all about the bread and some say that Philadelphia water makes for the best bread in the states.
