The routing is by no means obvious, partly due to 3 long walks on the course despite being on a small property.
The first long walk is just getting to the first tee, at the bottom of the pic.
2 and 3 along right side, 4 and 5 along top. 6 is par 3 with long narrow green going south.
Long walk to 7th tee (at bottom right of parking lot) going east across water. Hole is known for tree obstructing approach shot to right half of huge green.
8 comes back west, reachable par 5, with excellent cross bunker on tee shot.
9th is puny par 3 with tee SW of sand.
10 is par 5 going back east, 2nd from bottom. My vote for best hole on the course. Can you hit the fairway wood fade to the green? Otherwise in one of two tough bunkers. Green is below fairway, mostly hidden from tee shot.
11 is par 3 mentioned above, going north.
12 is dogleg right par 4 across pond.
13 dogleg left to "island green in the sand".
14-16 is toughest stretch on course.
Back tee on 14 goes from behind the water (across little bridge visibile) across long stretch to diagonal fairway with cross bunker into the wind. tough 2nd shot.
15 is long par 4 dogleg left above 14.
16 is par 4 into wind across pond to green.
17 is par 3 with lots of sand (and Strantz' first "scar" bunker in front).
18 back down south with lots of water and long walk WITHIN the hole, mentioned above.
This is none other than Mike Strantz' first solo effort, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, south of Myrtle Beach, SC.
My main complaint is the same as at Tobacco Road, no long par 3's. Longest was 6-iron for me from back tees (5 par 3's), then 8,9,9, and gap wedge.
Can you explain your reference, Patrick?
