Every Club Has Its Rodney Dangerfield.....
« on: January 21, 2011, 09:05:39 AM »
In a meeting yesterday, someone made this comment - "Every Club Has Its Rodney Dangerfield....."  Of course, it preceded the description of this club's RD - a guy who pees whenever he feels like it, whereever he feels like it.

Is this true, and if so, describe your club's Rodney!

We used to have one of those peeing guys but he moved out of town a year or two ago. I remember one time right after I joined the club we were standing in the fairway waiting for the green to clear on a Par 5 (from 250+ yards out which is another story). I was looking back toward the tee, turned around and there IT was the thing you don't particular care to see in the locker room and sure as hell don't expect to encounter on the third fairway. That was the exact moment he commenced to create a race horse sized puddle right square in the middle of the fairway without even bothering to turn his back to the rest of the foursome. Concluded with a satisfied "All Right!". Ye Gods.

Other than that he was an OK fellow I suppose...but I can't get past "that" and am can't say I was sorry to see him go. He could have at least yelled "Fore".

You need one of these:

http://bikeweek.com/gallery.cfm/mode/details/id/31936

Located on the mountainside  overlooking the town of Sturgis, SD. A guy bought the land, turned it into an RV park and after getting a LOT of harassment from the city, made this of himself and set it up. It's 12-15 feet tall or more and can be seen for miles. Apparently, he looks like Rodney D.!

We had a guy here on Hilton Head that lived in the Palmetto Dunes development overlooking the Jones course. Rather than drive his car into the main entrance he would leave the highway and drive across the fairway to his house. When confronted, he would just grin and laugh. Yes, he was a golfer.

I was playing in a GAP match a couple years ago.  Guy from the visiting club decides he's going to irrigate the trees - unfortunately he's in plain sight of half the western world.

I said, "Come on, guy anybody can see you - there's a bathroom in two holes."   You'd have thought I had called his wife a really bad name.

I guess we import our RD's :)

A club I worked at many years ago had a member that fits the role.  He got to the point he would do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted.  He was no more than 5'4" tall.  Older gent.  He was a decent golfer in his day but in his later years struggled with distance.  He smoked like a chimney and could drink most men under the table.

The event I'm about to described occurred back when there were "men's only" grills.  On the other side of the wall from the men's grill was the "mixed grill" which looked out over the practice putting green.  The rooms were in the basement so the window ledge was about 4 feet off the floor which then was even with the pavement outside.  There was a small wood chip area between the sidewalk and the window.

One day, this particular member drove up with his cart between nines.  Not feeling like making the walk into the clubhouse and the locker room, he decided to relieve himself on the wood chips in front of the window.  The problem was the windows during the day were tinted so you could see your reflection but couldn't see much on the other side.  The two couples directly on the other side of the windows found themselves watching this man do his business a few feet away in the middle of their lunch.

Needless to say, I got an earful about the situation.....

Brook Hollow has a sign on the 8th tee reminding you that there is now a day school in the office building to your left and restrooms after 9.I am sure the sign was put up for a reason.

Our club hasn't heard about no men's grills anymore.

This should probably be on the dinosaur thread.

There has been a breakthrough - ladies are welcome after 6 p.m.  Presumably by then the drunks have packed up and wandered out to terrorize the streets of Pensacola!

I wish our mens grill souls disappear for three reasons:1.Men are not attractive2.Women are attractive 3.Men are even more unattractive when there aren't women around

When did doing natural things in nature become a bad thing?

Travis I try not to play courses with such poor drainage. Actually i do move into the trees. This topic does have merit if we discuss favorite outdoor spots on courses for pit stops. I love the combination of palm trees and ferns next to the 7th tee at Mountain Lake. I am also fond of standing under the Cypress tree by the 14th tee on MPCC Shore course. Of course how can one not love standing in the limbs of the tree house Cypress on the right of Cypress Pointe #14 or half way down the path between 15 and 16 at Cypress. The views of 16 green are breathtaking. I personally know many gentlemen who find these and many others to  be real high points in the day. There is also a splendid Cypress tree on the right of 16 at Olympic Lake where a wonderful lady used to enjoy bringing special moments to male members. The is a V trunked tree named in her honor. I shall withhold her name because a gentleman would never tell.

A very well-respected BC Supreme Court judge, now deceased, used to play at Point Grey GCC in Vancouver and I came to know him fairly well. Great and sensible judge, fun golf companion, knew how to drink, smoked and loved every day.

Several years back he was on an annual trip to the Palm Springs area with his Point Grey buddies. One day they were playing a newer course with which they were not familiar. In the midst of the round, the judge had the urge, and was having difficulty finding a grove of trees where he could relieve himself. Soon they came upon what appeared to be a maintenance building with coloured, metal like panels on the exterior and some modest landscaping and bushes nearby. The judge wondered over and began and stood in the bushes adjacent to the maintenance building.

It turned out that this was not a maintenance building but a restaurant, with that particualr side sheathed in one-way coloured glass and there were several women sitting in the restaurant adjacent to the window witnessing the prestigious judge becoming more comfortable. All hell breaks loose, two men come running around the corner to take the judge out of view, tell him they are calling the police, etc. etc. After a half hour of explanation, they finally let him go.

True story which he blushingly admitted to me several years later and confirmed by one of his playing partners. I would never consider him a Rodney Dangerfield type but the story was too good.

Just saw this suggestion on another golf website:

One club is rumored to have the staff anonymously vote on which member they believe the club would be better off without. That member then gets the ‘dreaded’ annual notice that they are no longer a member of the club and a check is included reimbursing them their initiation fee.

Think this “urban legend” would be effective at your club?

While you would out of view from everyone on the golf course and the 16th hole - you'd be in plain view of anyone washing equipment at the shop!

I was discussing this topic with a good friend who happens to be an attorney and the official "police officer" for the small community surrounding our club.  He informed all of us present that urinating in site of those living around the course can potentially lead to a charge of indecent exposure and the possible tag of sex offender, requiring registration with the feds and all that goes with it.
Scary thought.

That's a great idea.  I've worked at a few places with members so bad the club wouldn't even have to reimburse the initiation fee, the employees would happily pay it just to have the person gone.
