Ardglass is a fine choice Mr McBride.Wine Valley makes my list.

  Anthony

I really want to get to Wine Valley.

Did you play Castlerock and Portrush Valley when you were in Northern Ireland?  They almost made my list.

Billy Boy - I'm glad you gave a nod to Ardglass.  After the recent redo of the ocean holes Ardglass is a step beyond just "good".  It's an excellent alternate if you have an extra day while staying at Slieve Donard and playing RCD.  JC

What did they do?  I was there in October 2007, right after the Walker Cup at RCD.

Bill,

Good list - no room for Huntercombe?

Awfully close.  Really close.  Is it that accessible if you don't know our friends?  I had the feeling it might be a bit more private than many privates, if you know what I mean.

Bill,

The Gorsemen will be in Scotland in August.  If we had just one space to fill, do you pick Crail or Elie?  Why? How many rounds do you have at each?

Thanks Bill,

Shane

Whichever course has room, Shane,  If you have a free day, it would be an excellent and thrill-packed day!

I'm 5/5, love 'em both.

Glad you caught Ardglass, but those other two are terrific.

Bill, this list proves to me that you really need to come up to Wisconsin and play Lawsonia....

I would enjoy that.  How far from Madison (where I have a great old golf buddy)?

Since money is no object on Bills list I prefer Erin Hills to Lawsonia and played both on day trips from Madison.  Erin Hills fits that Torrey Pines, Pasa list that I don't have.

Bill,

Good list - no room for Huntercombe?

I thought about Huntercombe as well. While it is loads of fun, Huntercombe gives me more of a calm serene feeling. The other courses on Bill's list are more thrilling in their joy.

Another I might add to this list is St Enodoc. It's the total package.

Good point.  Does the Balcomie have more par 3's that get your heart rate up on the tee than any other course?  #3, #6, #13!!, #14, #16!!, #18!

Whoops - Longshadow is an obvious oversight.  One fun hole after another.  The conditions aren't great, but the golf is.

My 10 becomes a dozen, a 20% bonus for Sean!

Ardglass looks teriffic, but who did those tee boxes? I doubt they are 19th century originals.

Bill:

I'd be interested in a short listing of courses that just missed your listing.

Can you provide say ten -- no more than a dozen that would fit that request.

thanks,

p.s. both Int'l and domestically

You can get to Lawsonia from Madison in 90 minutes -- I know the shortcuts!

Not if you haven't been there!

Next time you come out my way look me up - I'm sure I can round up a couple of GCAers' and we'll make the trek to Gothenburg.  You won't be disappointed, I promise you!

Here are ten Caledonian courses that are easy to access AND fun to play (time after time) :

Brora
Cruden Bay
Elie
Gullane #3
Kilmacolm
Kilspinsdie
Machrie
North Berwick West
Prestwick St.Nicholas
Shiskine.

The 9-hole course at Traigh is another feel good wee course (as is the 9-hole Bann course at Castlerock in N.Ireland).

Now there's a thread for someone to begin (if it hasn't already been done) - FUN 9-hole courses...

BTW - Huntercombe is a very visitor friendly club so long as you stick to 2balls.
