Next week I'll be making a trip to New York City to explore some old newspapers.  PM me if you might wish to join me on this foray.

JoE,

I'm jealous. Enjoy yourself. Where are you going and what newspapers are you planning on looking at? Are you seeking the old Long Island newspapers?

I plan on going to the New York Public Library Research Library.  They have many old area newspapers that aren't readily accessible anywhere else.  I want to peek at a bunch of these and see if any might have had a prolific golf writer.  Maybe we'll get lucky and discover a golf architect or two from that area also wrote for a paper, similar to Tilly and Findlay here in some Philadelphia papers.

P.S.  I'm more than willing to show any newbies the ropes concerning the digging, at least how I go about it.  So, if you've been thinking about researching an early club, maybe your club (!), come join me.  Right now the most likely day is Tuesday.

Joe,

I'd suggest contacting them before you go as to which branch has the newspapers you want to look through. They are held at different branches.

If you want to look at the early Long Island papers you need to go to Hofstra University and the Long Island Studies Institute. Let me know if you want to go there and I'll call them for you. I know everyone there very well and I'll be glad to fib and tell them you're an OK guy! They can be very helpful and can aid in specific searches.

Joe, good luck. That place can be a zoo. Printing can be quite a hassle as well

I have researched all this in advance.

If the printers aren't working reliably, I'll be resourceful with my camera. :)

I've still not dug out from the snow we had, so this trip to the NYPLRL will have to wait to a later date.  Perhaps as early as Wed or Th.
