JP,

Happy Holidays!

Your statement proves all my points! I'll certainly stop by, we've probably already met, as I've spoken with at least 6-8 of your folks in the last 3 years. Just so you know, the Sun Mountain produced L8+, for Ping in the 90's, is the best carry stand bag ever made, in my opinion. I STILL use it today and it is in superb shape. I'm not down on SM, though the stubborn thinking there regarding this issue, is unfortunate.

As to ZERO demand...says who? Let's give the golfer CHOICE as to weather they can wear metals spikes or soft-spikes, I'll BET MY LIFE there would be plenty of demand for metal spikes, especially in wet climates and soft conditions. Soft-spikes are terrible on green surfaces that are soft and on wet, hilly or sidehill conditions, I've seen pros, on two occasions, that were wearing soft spikes go down, when hitting shots, in wet conditons on side-hill lies!.

Just because an industry says there is no demand...when they've basically conned or FORCED the consumer to adopt something...that hardly qualifies as the consumer saying they don't want something. Most single straps, EVEN YOURS, have been poorly constructed. You can have your opinion and "data."

I'll happily sit down with you and let's watch the U.S. Amateur tapes of the last ten years. Most caddies (many who were not regular caddies as well) carried ON ONE shoulder, even with a double-strap set-up, especially the deeper you got into the competition. In fact, I remember TOUR PLAYER Jonathan Byrd carrying for his brother, and he had the pitiful double-strap on ONE SHOULDER. That's the top competition in the U.S. without Tour-sized bags which are a whole different animal. That example is just one small window which shows that what you assert isn't quite the case. I read constantly about guys that can't stand double straps, and they ain't all foggies either!

This is, mercifully, the end of my opinion and comment on this issue...it's all about the GCA bag, just kindly give us the single-strap option in whatever model is selected!

Cheers 8)

What?
I don't see where JP Blain says anything that you are disputing....take the example you use and place it in the overall golf population and it is a big ZERO..just as he says....
Cheers

If consumers really wanted single-strap bags, more of them would be made.  Unlike soft spikes, there is no prohibition on using single-strap bags, so it's just a simple question of demand -- and right now there isn't any.  (I suppose one could argue that most golfer-consumers aren't smart enough to make up their own minds up and realize that single-straps are better, but I don't buy that.)

In honor of Christmas Eve I thought I would bump this. This time of year I think many of us could use a new golf bag. As for the negative comments about Sun Mountain earlier in the thread I need to add that it is starting to flood here in Greater Northwest Harris County and I wore my Ridgeview Ranch (shout-out to Brauer) Sun Mountain jacket and it tore the rain a new a-hole.

I mentioned this before, and the response was underwhelming, but I'm willing to spearhead Player's Towels with the logo, subject to a blessing from Ran.

Hat, towel, or another rain shirt, I'm in. I think I've evolved into a push cart guy, however, so I don't need another carry bag (even tho my last gca bag was a casualty at the last Reverse Jans -- those Ping bags make good cushions if you fall backwards onto the ice, but the dividers won't last!).

Add me to the list -- particularly if it ends up being the lightest, single-strap (at least as an option) bag possible

Ben,

Is the SX6 a larger six-way divider bag?

I don't want to put a damper on the whole thing but there are things you have to understand about what's involved in all of this.  First of all Sun Mountain was terrific in helping with the project but there are limitations.  The embroidery is done 5 bags at a time and they must be the same bag.  Sun Mountain ships them out but we cannot expect them to do 5 bags in 5 different colors sent to 5 different locations - eventually it just gets too expensive.  So we limited ourselves to one bag originally and then two bags the second time.  Keep in mind that this was not a money maker for GCA but a way for one GCA member to spot another GCA member.  And then there was the international shipping at a decent rate which was another pain for Sun Mountain.

I am not saying that this should not be done however, keep in mind that it takes quite an effort and it isn't worth it for a few bags.

Jerry,

Good points. The two bag options of the last effort seem fine. The folks at Sun Mountain certainly have been helpful to assist the GCA gang in "representing" on the course. Seems like the SWIFT X, improved 2011 version and some other model, perhaps a bit larger, would make sense. Color patterns...well something understated makes sense I presume. All some of us fossils request is a quality, single strap option!

Cheers and thanks to all for your input. The discussion has certainly been lively.

Scott,

Yes it is the lightweight six divider bag albeit 'SX6'
There is a ultralightweight two divider bag as well

Ben,

Can I suggest that you move swiftly to identifying the bag that you are offering and a price?
In July I will be riding two stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity, including Mont Ventoux for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Mark,

I am moving along and will hopefully confirm the costs of the bags in the next few weeks. Ping have been great so far and Titleist is a bit slow but I am doing the Titleist bags through a mate who runs a golf shop as requested by Titleist custom department as they only deal with registered account holders.

Brian,

I am working on that - I have suggested that the Golf Club Atlas logo (minus the flags) to be on the ball pocket. 'GCA' on the smaller side accessory pocket and a large 'Golf Club Atlas' lettering on the large apparel pocket so that it is more visible from a distance :)
Ping have no problems producing a White/Red/Blue bag and no different in price between 1 colour bag and 3 colour bag :)

Initially will produce options - images with the bag colours for GCA to choose and hopefully proceed with one which the majority are happy with

Cheers
Ben
