My daughter keeps giving me Royal New South Wales shirts that are too small for my American sensibilities.  My wife says that Australians wear there shirts and clothes in general on the tight side.  I know that if I live long enough they will eventually fit.

Perhaps posthumously.   ;)

On the road let the home flag fly. Foreign logos good when at home.

Thats a good strategy Rory.  I may have to start doing that...

I bought a hat at Secession - two flag logo on the front and SECESSION on the back - some people look at you kind of angrily when wearing it.

David,

As long as it's a gift, you're ok.  Plus, you'll have a sob story about how you didn't get to play the course!

The real crime is power logo overload. Power logo overload occurs when someone wears more than one power logo at the same time.

The miscreant is signaling that he wants to regale you with stories about the famous courses he has played. It's like hanging a sign around your neck, "Please ask me about my golf trips."

Conversation with him should be avoided at any price. ;)

What about somewhat obscure logos?  E.g., Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena, MT [a muni], or Charles T. Myers Golf Club in Charlotte [also a muni].  Any opinions out there about "powerless logos," or whatever you might call them?

Power Logo Dilemma/Cool Guy Protocol:

This fall, I was invited to play a course that, at least on this site, would be considered amongst the Holy Grail of US architecture. Sadly, I had pretty extensive shoulder surgery (and have been in a sling since) and had to pass on the trip out west. So here is the issue: my best friend went and he brought me back a beautiful, logoed long sleeve golf shirt that is perfect to wear this time of year.

That said, I cannot bring myself to wear it because I'm fearful that somebody who actually gives a shit will ask me what I thought about the course/experience and I'll have fess up and tell them that, essentially, I'm a logo dork.

Does one where a logo of a club that he has never played before???
David-The gift angle is a good one and gives you a pass as a logo dork. Now if you bought it slightly used on EBay thats a different story.

Paul,

What would you have suggest David do with the shirt that his best friend gave him from a trip they unfortunately were not able to share because of an injury?  May I wear the shirts my daughter gives me from where she plays in Australia, or how about shirts from the courses my brother designs that I have not seen? I take much more pride in shirts given to me by friends and family than those for which I may have paid or bartered.

Tim has the right idea. When it is a gift, you are free from logo dork. Then again, who cares? Life is too short to let other people get you down. If you like the shirt, wear it.

Bingo!  Jim's exactly right.  There's only a maximum of 1211 people in this world that are going to spend more than a second judging you based on the golf course logo on your shirt.  What are the odds you will cross paths with any of us, and who really cares what we think anyway?

What, do I have to go over my logo rules again?

If more than one logo is worn at one time, one must be a member of said course; and such matching logos shall never exceed two (and even then, it's suspect).

Only members of a course may carry a bag from said course.

Headcovers with differing logos are okay, if retro-ping fuzzy style (c. 1986) and non-gaudy. Preferably from the Isles.

Have to have played the golf course to wear or otherwise adorn the logo. I.E. I can't wear a sand hills shirt unless I've PLAYED sand hills.

Sole Exception: Multiple or different logos may be worn in cases of inclement weather or emergency clothing changes (such as mustard all over one's shirt at lunch).

I am currently wearing a Dismal River coat with a simple strand of barbed wire and no words as the logo. This is the same tattoo sported by the Dismal Devil on his bicep. The new Dismal logo is of a buffalo whose birth mark is in the shape of the sand hills region.

I think you guys have it all wrong on power logos.

I'd much rather play with the guy that show up with a pine valley hat, CPC shirt, and NGLA wind top than the guy that walks up to the tee with a Wild Horse hat, Lawsonia Links shirt, Rustic Canyon belt buckle, and Longshadow embroidered leather MacKenzie bag.

The second guy just screams, "I know more about golf course architecture than you."

I bet you really subconsciously want one of them Longshadow McKenzie Leather golf bags....well I know where you can get you one.... ;D

I don't have many rules concerning golf and even those are flexible.  For instance, don't spend more time behind the windshield for a game than it does to play and have drinks.  My rule concerning logos is to avoid wearing/using corporate logos.  I will not have corporate head covers and I am always in search of good backups.  Same for towels.  I would rather a guy wore Shitbag CC rather than a Titleist hat.  Of course, the one RULE which trumps all is that free swag is the best swag even if there is a swoosh on it.

The ultimate in power logos was when I played with Mayhugh, Arata and Kelly in October. Their collective 9-10 headcovers pretty much covered the spectrum of anywhere you could ever want to go.

I love the Fishers Island logo and am upset with myself for not buying more stuff there. I love that it doesn't have any words, just the logo. I like logos with no words because I'd never wear a golf shirt with XX Golf Club under the logo away from the golf course, but my Deal polos with just the club logo and my Fishers shirt get plenty of wear on non-golf days.

Reading this thread, what amazes me is how seriously some people take this stuff. Really? Is it really necessary to have a determined set of rules as to what is right and wrong?!

Why can't we wear anything we want again?

Can I only wear logo'd golf shirts of places where I am a member?

Can I only wear logo'd golf shirts of places where I've played?

Why can't I have multiple bag tags on my golf bag?  Fyi, currently I carry a St. Ives bag, with a Rivermont, East Lake, and Classic Club bag tag.

While playing the other day, I carried my bag (as described above) while wearing an Aiken Golf Club shirt, a Paiute Wolf rainjacket, and wearing the Pine Needles ball cap (which I stick in my bag just in case it rains while I am playing).  That would be 7 total logos...and let me tell you...no one looked cooler than me!!!   8) ::) ??? :-\

Tim,

Is that because you feel inferior to number 2 in some way and would kill you to play with somebody that might have more architectural knowledge?  :)
