Hi All

Just thought I would quickly introduce myself as have recently joined.
I live on the Mornington Peninsula and play golf mostly at St Andrews Beach or Flinders. I decided 5 years ago having moved back to this part of the world  that I couldn't justify the expense of club membership given the good value that is around here as a green fee player.

I grew up playing golf at Patterson River where I got down to a handicap of three and once played Stuart Appleby and Stephen Allan in the same day as part of state squad tryouts. Hard Work!! By the way Patterson River is now an appalling mess of a course but the committee are happy because it is open 365 days of the year!!

Hope I can contribute to some of the discussions and perhaps one day even start some.

Thanks

Welcome Ash!

hope you enjoy it as much as I do - unfortunately or fortunately the traffic on here is busiest at times of the day not always ideal for us Southerners - I am in Vic also.

Cheers

Welcome to this menagerie Ashley.
I visit Melbourne a few times each year and this Christmas I am hoping to play St. Andrew's Beach.  I will drop you a line if you want and see if you are available.  It would be nice to play with someone who has pretty good knowledge of the course.

Cheers Colin

Ashley,
are StAB offering some kind of membership, or strictly pay for play? I am assuming that all the original members lost all their rights?

They have recently annouced "playing rights" which are listed on their website. Either yearly or 6 monthly. I believe the original members lost their rights but Mark Ferguson would probably be able to respond to that.

Might be safer not to ask Mark to respond to that.   :)

sounds like you have a good deal down at st andrews beach, check your PMs.

Ask not what GolfClubAtlas can do for you; ask what you can do for GolfClubAtlas.

Welcome Ashley

Next time I'm heading down to St Andrews Beach I'll give you a buzz. Sadly not likely to be any time soon.

welcome ashley

I never expected to see Patterson River mentioned here.  I think you did it succinctly!

Welcome Ashley - good to have another Melbourne based GCA member. I'm sure you'll enjoy the place!

Welcome Ashley

There is a GCA event in Tasmania in March 2011 - I dont know if there are any spots left ? but you may want to contact Scott Warren (event organiser) via PM ?

What are your favourite courses on the Mornington Peninsula ?

Welcome aboard Ashley, always nice to see another Victorian interested in architecture.

Watch out for the fiesty Sydney mafia types though - they mean well but they can be a little highly strung  :P

Thanks to all those for your welcomes.
Kevin I enjoy just about all the courses on the Peninsula, just depends what I am looking for on the  day.
Flinders - great for a Sunday afternoon stroll with a beer in hand and a golfing mate, followed by dinner at the Flinders Hotel.
The Dunes - some of the best holes on the Peninsula, 3, 7,10, 12, 13 17. all classics.
Portsea - great collection of short par fours
St Andrews - most unique, but in a good way greens and surrounds I have played.
RACV Cape Schnack - great value with some incredible views
Cerberus - what I here you say!! 9 hole course just near my house, $10 green fees, great for a walk with the kids, greens and surrounds that are quite good and very hard to find the target.

The others I have played them all but not many times so would not like to comment.
