Had the pleasure of playing here a few days ago. This was a real treat. Had to hit every shot imaginable. Greens were pretty slick. Some bunker work not completed yet.

Great club Jeff.  Glad you enjoyed it and happy to see that work is going apace.  I was there right after 9/11 and they had flags on the lockers of those who were lost...Dave Debusschere and I had a few in the bar in silence...

Jeff,

Westhampton is one of the most underrated courses in the U.S.

It's a terrific golf course, day in and day out.

If it didn't reside in the same neighborhood as it's kin, it would certainly be more highly rated.
The new regime there is bent on getting the course F&F, in optimal playing condition.

Like it's famous neighbors, Westhampton enjoys good winds.

Some fellows I met in Las Vegas asked me where to play on the East End besides the "famous" courses and I told them to try to get to Westhampton.

Thank you Pat. This website helped me prepare for what I experienced this weekend. I would not have the same level of appreciation without it. Westhampton had to play the role of spoiler in this lineup and it did so beautifully.

Westhampton has undergone work this winter. I believe it was at the direction of Gil Hanse with some input/help from George Bahto. I spoke to a member today who is very excited about a lot of bunker work, removal of bunkers such as between 10 and 15, and new bunkers being added to add strategy in many places. He specifically mentioned some bunkers in the fairway at the par 5  5th that make you think about your second shot where golfers used to just hit as far as they could. There was also excitement about a grass "speed bump"  type feature that runs diagonally across the 9th fairway. It seems like there is a lot to be excited about in Westhampton. Does anyone have any more information on it? Photos?

The "grass speed bump" is the remnant of an old cross bunker that was abandoned.

It's my understanding that that bunker will be restored.

I kinda liked the bunkers between # 10 and # 15.

I'm getting cursed and praised for convincing them to make # 17 a hybrid Biarritz.

Did you convince Gil? Or the club before Gil got there?  Over the past few years, it seems to change from green to rough a lot.
I heard they also put a tee on the Redan 7th back by the bathroom  level at 220.

The work is with Gil. I spent Monday and Tuesday with Jim Wagner shaping at Applebrook and he was heading up to Westhampton afterwards for the rest of the week.

Yes, they did lengthen # 7, despite Sean Arble's claim that club's aren't lengthening their courses.

They have a lot of members, especially the younger ones, that hit the ball a mile

I love the name of # 8 and the ridge that you must get over on your drive.
"Senility" and "Senility Ridge"

It's really a wonderful golf course and the wind makes it even better, especially # 11, the "short"
