Jim Fazio

Jim Fazio's association with Trump has brought him a fair amount of attention. Does anybody out there know anything he has worked on without the Donald that they might be able to comment on?

El Diablo is terrific, and very deserving of GD's Best New award.

Hawk's Nest is real nice, but a couple goofy holes and its proximity to John's Island knock it down a peg in my eyes.

I've been told much of his work was in partnership with Tom.

Jeff

I believe he also did Great River, a new public facility in our neck of the woods. I plan on going out to see it this spring. It's a high budget, lots of earthmoving project.  I've heard a range of comments from great course to boring form those who've played it.

GeoffreyC,
Jim Fazio didn't design Great River in Connecticut. Ironicly, I was just looking at their wedsite yesterday because Conneticut news had a write up about it this summer while I was in New York. It was designed by Tommy Fazio, Tom's nephew. It has a slope rating of 152 and was Golf Digest's 4th Best New Public this past year. Tommy has done work with Nick Price and Faldo also. The clubhouse at Great River is MASSIVE!!! If any want to see the web site on some pics, www.greatrivergolfclub.com

I've played Great River and it is unconscionable how large they made their clubhouse given how little land they had to work with - narrow sliver of land 3 holes wide, at most, hemmed in by the housatonic river and RR tracks.

Still, I was somewhat impressed by what Tommy Fazio was able to do with that piece of land.

I've heard good things about El Diablo, but unfortunately the only Jim Fazio original course I've played is also one of the most horrible courses I've ever played...It is called "Country Club of the Poconos at Big Ridge" in PA, and anyone who has been there will readily attest to it's horrificness (is that a word?)

I know he worked with George in great detail on a NLE course called Hidden Springs which used to host an LPGA event in the 80s in PA as well, and that course was pretty good.  Unfortunately, it got plowed over and is now a Palmer/Seay effort called Commonwealth Country Club, again near Philly.

my mistake- At least I knew it wasn't done by the darling of this DG. I guess its not true that if you've seen one Fazio you've seen them all  ;)

I'm still going to check out Great River this season.

I believe that Jim Fazio designed RIVERCHASE GC in Coppell (an upscale NW Dallas suburb), and operated by American Golf.  It is a very average daily fee facility with little architectural merit, and terribly encroached on by roads and apartments.  For a long time it was marketed as a Fazio design.  A year or so ago, rumor had the city interested in acquiring and renovating it, but I don't think that it happened.

Another that has not been mentioned is Barnsley Gardens Golf Resort up here near Atlanta. (Adairsville, GA).  It is an enjoyable golf course, the only knock might be that given the terrain it is fairly unwalkable.

I loved Hawks Nest, and what does its proximity to any other course have to do with it.  What am I missing?

Also El Diablo is very enjoyable as well.  A little off the beaten path, but worth the drive.

I think Tommy Fazio also designed a course in Vero.
This must be the only place where you can find 3 courses by 3 different designer, each with the same last name

Quail Valley - Tommy Faz
Hawk's Nest - Jim Faz
John's Island W. - Tom Faz
