I don't know if its within 60 minutes of the stadium, but its really hard to beat these five who are within 15 minutes of each other.

1- SFGC
2- Olympic
3- Harding Park
4- Lake Merced
5- The Cal Club

I have not played it, but would someone who has nominate the Meadow Club for the SF list?

Geoff - is Ben Sims driving you to Lancaster to meet the 60 minute criteria?

Jim,

Even then, he'd probably  need to eject overhead to make his tee time. At least based on google maps

Definitely.  I would replace Harding Park with the Meadow Club in Philip's list.  I would replace Lake Merced with Sonoma Golf Club - if you catch all the lights.

According to Google Maps, Pasatiempo is 72 minutes from Pac Bell.  I'd have it above Lake Merced (modern version).  How far is it to Mayacama?

I'd like to see a comparison of the top 5 within city limits for each as opposed to the same old comparison of greater metro area courses.  We know that each of your cities is world class within 120 miles and also within 60 miles and even 30 miles, etc.

What have you got that you can claim as your own?  I think many of the SF top 5 are actually within city limits.  Not sure if the same can be said for the Philly top 5 (I know of one in particular that isn't even in the same state!)

Let's see the home town top 5s and how they stack up.  Thanks!

That would be no contest as there are only two private clubs inside the Phila. city limits.

Bala & Torresdale Frankfort

Can any major city compete with SF for quality of courses within the city limits?

For San Francisco, the only courses that are 100% within the city boundaries are:

Harding Park (and the Fleming 9)
Presdio
Lincoln Park
Golden Gate Park (9 holes)
Gleneagles (McClaren Park)

SFGC has only 13.5 holes in the city limits
Olympic Lake has 16.5 holes in the city limits
Olympic Cliffs has 8.5 holes in the city limits

 Tim,

Aren't city limits out west bigger than here in the east ? You need to factor that in :o

Looks like geographically Philadelphia is 3 times the size of San Francisco, 47 vs. 143 square miles.

Just throwing it out there.

Within L.A.'s city limits you have:

LACC
Riviera
Wilshire
Bel Air
El Caballaero

400 square miles within the city limits!
