Sort Of An Off The Wall Question

Does anyone know why the USGA refers to the Senior Men's and Senior Women's championships as the USGA Senior Men's Championship and the USGA Senior Women's Championship while every one of their other championships is simply referred to as the U.S. (whatever) championship. For example the Mid Amateur is simply called the U.S. Mid Amateur championship, not the USGA Mid Amateur championship.

Told you it was an off-the-wall-question.

I believe it has something to do with how the USGA legally represented itself at the time the specific Championships were first created...

They don't, however they do use:  USGA Senior Women's Amateur, USGA Senior Amateur, and USGA Mem's State Team. Everything else is just U.S. _________.

What do you mean by "they don't"?  Every championship is listed as the U.S. (whatever championship) except the Senior Men and Senior Women which are listed as the USGA Senior Amateur and USGA Senior Women's Amateur.
I called the USGA and they explained that the reason they use the USGA moniker with just those two championships is that years ago there were championships throughout the country using "U.S." They wanted to make sure everyone knew the REAL Senior and Women's Senior were run by the USGA, hence the USGA preface.

The first link is the Senior Open, it doesn't use USGA, just U.S.
The second link is another USGA page listing their events. The only championships that use USGA instead of U.S are the Senior Amateur and the Women's Senior Amateur. The state team event also uses USGA instead of U.S.

I think you may have confused the amateur events w/those for the professionals, which is probably the same reason that the USGA uses the different headings.

I don't know the answer but my bet would be that there were senior tournaments called the U.S. Senior Men's or Women's prior to the conception of the USGA's events. There are senior golf organizations (such as the Society of Senior Golfers) that run national tournaments.

I am certain that anyone who plays in the USGA's Senior tournaments considers then the Senior national championships.
