Gents,

I will be in the area Thursday night and Friday. I have yet to book accommodation so wondered if anyone was staying at the Fairways Hotel and if not, where?

I hope to play some golf on Friday, whether in or out of competition...but I've already messed Sean about with an on / off email so will look after myself and play it by ear...

Look forward to meeting you all...

Have you no pride?  Euros indeed.  If one bothered to sign up I could understand your plea for their inclusion.  But to claim a continent without proper representation smacks of colonialism - you dirty British pig (how is that for a slagging? - tee hee).  I say (and have officially said) the home side is GB&I as there are no particpants on the squad without citizenship of GB&I.  Witness that Spangles is Captain of GB&I!

Sean, you damn colonial upstart!  ;D

European flag saved for a couple of weeks time, GB&I now flown with pride!

Cheers,

James

Don't have a GHIN this year- haven't posted a single round; 20 or so rounds played YTD; range 74 - 102, with a very skewed distribution to the right.  Would guess that I am around a USA 8, but will play to whatever the captains decide.

What's going on for lunch on Sat.?

Lunch Saturday will hinge on whether or not you are playing in the morning at Clyne.

I'm taking the morning off and plan on a late breakfast in Porrthcawl and a leisurely drive over to the Mumbles and Pennard.

After stellar play yesterday I have rocketed up from 7.9 to 8.

Just an interesting note.  My average score per competition round (card in hand) over 24 comps since January 2008 (when I signed up to How Did I Do?) is 84.93.  About 2.5 years is a fair sample to come up with an accurate cap.  I don't quite know how this equates to a CONGU 8 handicap, but I would be interested to know what this number works out to in the USA.  1st, assume I had no handicap to begin with for one index.  2nd, assume I was a 9 handicap to begin with for the other index.  Par is 71 and the course rating average for these comps was 72.2.  Any handicap nuts out there know the answers?

Any word from Scott on converting USGA GHIN indices to CONGU handicaps?

I figure my 13.3 GHIN is most likely a CONGU 20.   ;)

Bill, your GHIN 13.3 becomes a 13.7 under my ersatz CONGU calculation.

Jason Topp went from 4.6 to 5.5. Basic story is you both would get an extra shot.

The captains haven't indicated they want to use the system yet. If I am going to do the calculations I probably need to know by tomorrow night.

I am inclined to believe the GB&I team's triumphant run of wins has a bit to do with handicap inequality... much as I don't want to question their obvious "mad skillz" on the links. ;D

Looking forward to seeing you, Joe and Los Estados Unidos Capitán on Wednesday.
