Benjamin Sims Captain US Air Force deployed to NJ then Iraq
« on: September 07, 2010, 03:06:32 PM »
Our good friend Ben Sims is on a road trip.
He is going to be deployed to Iraq.
He is spending some time in NJ until then.
Let's send him off in great style.

In case you don't know him - Get to Know Him!

What are some of the best things he can do?
Attend a Mucci gathering?
Watch Matt Ward hit a driver?
Have a beer with George Bahto?

Here he is entertaining the ladies...
Thinking of Bob, Rihc, Bill, George, Neil, Dr. Childs, & Tiger.

Ben - Good Luck and Safe travels in Iraq....hopefully the time will fly by!!!

Never been to NJ, so can't offer much advice other than relax and play some golf before you head out to the desert!

I got the text message from Ben last week and talked to him on the phone that night.  He has the right attitude about it.  I'm sure he'll do great over there.

Given some of the sweet golf plans he now has to miss out on, maybe we can help put together the mother-of-all pay-it-forwards for him when he gets back in April, Andy Gray-style.  Paging Mr. Pazin!

Ben,

Safe travels and thanks for your service

Let me know if you need any inside info on the Dawgs as I have a feeling this could be a special year, we looked great in the opener; you could literally see the change in attitude on the defensive side of the ball.

When you make it back to the Atl we need to hit up ACC.

Ben,

Best wishes and thanks for your service.

Feel free to send me a PM if you have time to play a round of golf in NJ.  Jim Colton and Brad Fleisher can both vouch for me, I think. :)

KBM, that's funny.  Yes indeed Ben, by all means keep your head down in N.J.!  Maybe you can drop a very large stink bomb on those 'Jersey Shore' folk, before you head out!

But, be safe, and thanks for all you do.  8) 8) 8)

Wow! Sorry to hear about such a dangerous and unforgiving deployment. All I can say is I hope you keep your head down and be very wary of who is around you. If you do that and make it out of Jersey then Iraq should be a piece of cake and a boat load of fun!

Mr. Moran, if we could call you that with all due respect, on account of because that's the name also of Bugs Moran, who you may know was accidently not shot and made dead like 7 others in 1929, in a thing that is called the St. Valentine's Day Massacre but that was definitely not, ah, ordered by Mr. Alfonse Capone.  We do not know if you are or are not related to this Bugs Moran, who we have to admit even after 80 years we still do not like, as is natural since his business interests conflicted with ours. But this is besides the point, which point is that we want to know this: What have we ever done for you to treat us so disrespectfully? For what reason comes this insult to all those who may or may not reside in New Jersey at this given time? We would like an answer to this question at your earliest convenience, and also, we would like to say that we enjoy your golf courses very much and hope one day to work together in a situation where a piece of the pie could come to you and also, god willing, a piece to us.

Ben - hope to hear from you soon on here, safely back and enjoying your golf once again.

Ben,

It would be interesting to know if there is any golf developing in Iraq.

Well, I can't say I have the guts to ask anyone for more money, but I will contact some friends who may be able to show Ben a good time in Jersey.

Godspeed, young Ben, contact me when you get a chance.

Ben-
Just sent you a message...

As a Georgia Bulldog alum and native Atlantan living in New Jersey now, let me know if you need anything while you're here.  Other than a few areas in the north, and the inability to make a left turn, I love it.  :)  In fact--and I'm guessing you'll be at McGuire--you'll find plenty of areas in the Pine Barrens that will make you feel as if you never left rural Georgia.

Thanks for all you do and best of luck as you deploy.

Ben,

Godspeed, Thanks for all you and your group do for our country.  If you are still in Jersey and can attend Pat Mucci's event, Sept. 27, I'd be happy to cover your entry if there is still room (I'm pretty sure there would be). IM me your contact info if this might be possible, as spots are dwindling.

Cheers,
Kris

Dell,

Be well,

Come back safely.

Now lets get down to brass tacks! As my best friend Bill McBride's special emissary, I am taking bribes bids for Ben's spot in KP next year at Bandon. It will be a silent auction. PM you bids to me. I will notify the winners winner so that they can send me their checks check.

 8) Ben,

I can't believe you picked the green Nuzzo cap.. but i guess if you want to become a turf guy, it fits.

Did you ever make it to the Rawls Course?  Let us know when you get back.  Be safe and thanks!

Ben,
Best of luck to you.  I like the Nuzzo hat a lot, though I'm not sure about the upside down horseshoe.  I always thought they needed to be right side up for good luck.

Ben,

Thank you for and your family for your support of this great country.  You roam a plane I'll never know, in a manner I cannot conceive (I fear roller coasters.)  Enjoy your time in the skies and God Bless you.  I look forward to exchanges on this discussion board and tales of your daring overseas.

Send him to Bandon, then a long haul down to Australia, where I am sure the many fine GCA folks down here can get him to all the great courses... and maybe a side trip to NZ! I don't have any connections to the great courses but I would be happy to arrange the non-golfing activities and be his personal assistant!

Garland, I think the KP is in March, so he may be back too late for that one.

Let's get some ideas for the ultimate pay it forward.

Guys,

I can't begin to thank all of you enough for this most unexpected--and undeserved--thread.  I can't sugar-coat it, this deployment couldn't be any more surprising to me.  But this is what I signed up for 10 years ago.  All I ever wanted to do was fly, and now I get to help start an Air Force in another country!

I promise I will get to each and every email, PM, text, and letter in time.   But to get the information out, I will be in Ft. Dix, NJ from Sep 21-Oct 15 and then forward deploy directly from NJ to Tikrit, Iraq for 6 months.  During those three weeks, I should only get one day a week off.  I have no idea when those days will be.  I promise I'll tee it up with some of you if short notice is okay.
