With yesterday's "too much Ross" comment, I guess I should switch from the Ross I was going to show today :) .

THere sure seems to be some squared corners on several greens!  Is that Raynor?  Also, a classic par 5 dog leg left  about the middle east side of the property, with aligator eyes protecting the square green.  And how about that half moon green to the east of that par 5s tee?  Is it possible that the southern most par 3 with sqaare green that plays west to east is a biarritz where the front half before the swale is not mowed to green cut?  This is a museum piece, I desparately want to play there!  :-*

Seeing this classic gem makes me hope and fanticize that those greens have more humps and rolls than a Tiajuanna cathouse matress. :o

I have no idea where this is, I can't wait to find out or work on some more obvious clues. ;)

I also noticed the square greens as I played a course recently with similar features.  

This course is not terribly long, so one doesn't have to be like the nearby cannons to play this course well.

The fairway bunkers that actually jut into the fairways tell me that the super is doing a great job maintaining original fairway widths. Some of the bunkers on the N/S holes show a shadow hints that they have flat sand surfaces and grassed faces. This must be a very old course.  Restored? What's with that half-moon green in the upper right side of the aerial? What's to the left of it?? I've never seen anything like that.

This was a great choice.

I think I see a "short" hole to the middle right of the pic.
either #6, or 15?

I agree with you about the 4th (13th?) being a biarritz.

I think this has got to be a raynor/macd. course.

Also, i think i notice a principal's nose bunker 60-100 yards short of that Crescent Moon green.

Lots of stuff to like here.

The small parking lot shows that the club must have a hard time attracting members. Perhaps there are openings? ;)

Things I see.

The hole at the bottom running E to W could be an Alps hole.  It's hard to tell on my monitor, but I think I see an elevation change that could create a blind approach into the green.

The 5th hole (?) appears to be a Road Hole.

The tee shot over the lake appears to create an Elbow hole.

The hole directly above that appears to be a Punchbowl with the green beside the lake.

The hole following the short hole appears to be a Raynor prize dogleg with cross hazards coming out into the fairway short of the green.

Then the green that appears to have tongue that runs S to N (15?), could that be a double or triple plateau green?

With all the speculation about square greens and CB, Raynor, Steamshovel, and prize doglegs and biarritzes and what all; it would be a real hoot if this turns out to be a course built by a ASGCAer in like 1990s or something.  ROTFLMAO  ;D

I am always on the Lookout for a new course to play and this seems pretty interesting.  Greens look large..... so if it plays short for some,  putting must be at a premium.

I would drive past a tourist attraction to play this course.

    You may not realize how close you are.


John used my clues and went further.  The tourist attraction refers to my cannon clue and the other BIG clue refers to my "watch your back" clue.  Let's not create a Civil War, here, folks.  :)

the Alps hole is #11, on the bottom half of the aerial, running from NE to SW, with staggered fairway bunkers.  That dark dot behind the green is a tall directional pole.
I'll spill this a little earlier because there's some good stuff to show on this course.

EDIT:  Very well.  It is Lookout Mountain GC, in Lookout Mountain, GA, across the border from Chattanooga, TN.  Nearby Lookount Mtn natl park was the site of the famous Civil War battle, where the Confederates had their post atop the mountain.  Dick Daley was close about his reference to Brian Silva's Black Creek, also in suburban Chattanooga.  This is a Raynor design where he died before ground breaking and Charles Banks completed it as Fairyland CC.

Nice web page for LM.  I see our old friend Doug is always the bridesmaid, never the bride at their Men's club.  I can't tell from the web page if he took the prize at Black Creek instead.  Must be nice, Raynor tribute in the morning, cross town and Raynor 'the real deal' in the afternoon ;D
