Old Mac 10th in Golf Magazine Top 100 you can play
« on: August 04, 2010, 02:24:23 PM »
Not that it isn't worthy because I'm sure that it is, but how can it hit the rankings so quickly?
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Sort of implies that Old MacDonald will be somewhere between 57th and 67th best course in US.

Number 10 with a bullet, as they used to say...

It'll wind up being in the top 40 in Golf, top 65 in GD and top 5 in Golfweek Modern, in my wildly speculative opinion.  If something like that develops, will Old Mac wind up being the most successful public course opening in the past 50 years?

More than Pac Dunes?

Furthermore, can it or will it potentially move past Pac Dunes in all the rankings with some time?

I wouldn't agree in my own mind that it should eclipse Pacific Dunes, but I think it will.  It's that hot.  The return of the Template is upon us.  Not, as Seinfeld might have said, that there's anything wrong with it!

I see that Tobacco Road made the list.

Ronald, if you follow that reasoning, you have to say the Old Pac is that high BECAUSE OF Bandon Dunes...

How come the savior at QB isn't even going to start this year?

And to think your first post on this thread wasn't a) "what is the point of this thread" or b) isn't this thread unfair.... ;) ;D

Savior? Only "savior" moniker guy I know is starting for the Buckeyes.

Here is a juicy quote from the list (from the top 5 worst values on the list):

"No. 5 Bandon Trails (15) $75-$275
I'm a fan of this Coore/Crenshaw inland layout with its graceful routing and spectacular bunkers. But for $275 I want more encounters with the ocean and fewer with some of the wackiest greens I've stumbled upon."

Seriously? Wacky greens? I am not sure what makes them wacky...

You can't be running from your little Tim Tebow so quickly, can you?

Clearly the author three putted at least three times, and since the author only three putts at goofy (wacky) golf, they must be goofy (wacky).

I'll leave the top 4 alone and say Old Macdonald should be at least #5. Here are the top 10 from the article:

1 Pacific Dunes
2  Pebble Beach
3  Whistling Straits (Straits)
4 Kiawah Island (Ocean)
5 Bandon Dunes
6  Bethpage (Black)
7  Pinehurst (No. 2)
8  Spyglass Hill
9 TPC Sawgrass (Players Stadium)
10 Old MacDonald

The Straits is so highly rated yet gets very little love around here.  Should be an interesting discussion during the PGA in a week.  TW

I'm amazed that Cog Hill could jump from completely out of the rankings to 16th overall. Although I agree it should definitely be in the top 100, I didn't think the changes that Rees made were a big enough improvement (or really any improvement) to warrant such a move.
