A few steps off 6 green is the back tee on hole #7, set just above the ocean with this shot taken just following low tide

#7 green as seen from the beach just left of the green

#7 green from just left of back left bunker on beach side - false front between bunkers

Looking back from behind #7 green back toward the tee - you can just make out the bobcat on the blue tee

#6 will be similar in yardage and playing characteristics to the original hole playing between 125 and 185 yards with elongated approach fairway reaching nearly all the way to the forward tee. Only the back left pin would require a carry of the fronting bunker and that pin will be accesssible without the forced carry with a properly shaped, right to left shot that the prevailing wind will help shape.

#7 will be a very short, albeit rather difficult, hole. Playing as short as 99 yards and tipping out at 139 I believe this will quickly become the favorite hole of our guests. The green has a bit more spice than most on The Ocean Course and the variety of pin placements and ways to access them will make it a blast to play. Add to that what is without question the most dramatic teeing area at Cabo del Sol (and perhaps elsewhere) and you have a great hole. We could have followed the trend of lengthening the course and built a 250 yard hole that encompassed this land at that of the current 7th but that was really never considered given the potential of the short hole.

Hope to open 7 around November 1 and 6 in mid-December. As noted previously we are now also undertaking the task of pushing the 5th green some 35-40 yards back onto the beach and should have final plans for that sometime this week. We should have all renovations ready by the new year and can't wait to get feedback from the golfing public.

Greg, some before/after photos when you finish the changes would be cool.

Jim - Does not really lend itself to that... the new holes are on completely different land than the current holes. In fact the course is open for play as we make the changes.

For #7 picture a flat beach and a steep dune with a tee to the top. Dune gets reshaped to provide backdrop for the green set right on the beach. Tees set atop a rock formation with beach in between tee and green.
#6 was a matter of buidling a tee basically in the water(current tee is 60 yards from the water) and moving the green back 60-70 yards atop same otcropping as new 7th tees.

Will post old versus new when appropriate. New holes are far better. 7 is just awesome, pardon the technical terminology.

Greg,

Does the above mean that this project has also created a bit more beachfront real estate for sale, by shortening and changing the orientation of the two holes?  If so, "the potential of the short hole" could be read entirely differently.

Not at all Tom. The intent was really the opposite to push the golf away from the development. The current 6th tee would have been bordered very closely by villas/bungalows or the like at some point. We have created better golf (we think) while pushing closer to (into!) the water and away from development. The 7th is much the same though a large portion of the development is already along the 7th green complex.

The area where the 6th green and 7th tees will be would have been an unbelievable beach club site but we prefer to maximize the golf in this area. Beach clubs can be done well in other locations.

I don't believe I am overselling the 7th... it is that cool. The 6th is similar to its very well received predecessor while adding the wow factor of an unbelievable tee location with the normal waves crashing against the back edge.

Throw in the 5th green moving back 37 yards closer to the water (as far as legally posible) and we think we have truly maximized the land's potential along the coast at 5,6,7 and 8 along with 16, 17 and 18(I do not believe you have seen the new 16th green site either). You are due for a visit.

I would post pictures of what has to one of the coolest cart path routings through the rocks, dunes and along the beach... but such things are somewhat frowned upon on this site.

Wow!  That guy at the top of the picture should have dialed it back on the Big Gulps.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

A better view of the natural rock that wraps around the front - During a storm all beach sand will wash away on the left side and reveal the continuation of the rock well into the water

Dr Gray, Grassing is complete on 7 which should open in a couple of weeks. We will then go in and finish the 6th hole.

I try not to frequent the "hangouts" of certain "locals" but the little kid from whom you took money whilst impersonating a mariachi band member was asking for his money back.

I apologized on your behalf and noted you needed the money for cab fare later that evening. he was not amused. He has a wooden bobble-head turtle for you upon your return.

Wow, the 7th looks fantastic!

Greg, in an earlier reply you noted a revised location of the 5th and 16th greens.  Has that work been completed or is still in the planning stages?  I was last there in 2007 and both greens seemed in the same spot as my previous trips.
