TH - I am having trouble figuring it out too.  Clearly, the course is in the East Bay somewhere and the picture was taken during the summer?

But - I'm lost.  The clues haven't helped.  The only thing I could make out of the dry cleaning clue was it was in Martinez, CA.  (Martinizing).  But, it still doesn't help me.

Kevin's "clues" have me completely baffled.  I was gonna say Cordevalle but that's in Morgan Hill so I don't get the town clue.  Kevin seems to be saying Mare Island I guess but that's not expensive by any means.

Yes, I am bamboozled.  Good one, Scott!

John got it.  CordeValle.

Clue explanations:

Archie: Robert Trent (Bobby) Jones, Jr. (famous namesake=Bobby Jones)

Town: San Martin

Price: minimum $390 + caddie tip for "public" play recently allowed (big clue from Kevin to help give it away).  Highest green fees in California.

Web site has pics: http://www.cordevalle.com/

Ok, cool.  I have never played Cordevalle - don't think Rich has either (or at least I didn't hear if he did play there).  In fact, not many people I know have played the course... and "open to the public" sure is a misnomer!

I've heard nothing but good things about it also though from the few who have played it.  But nope, haven't seen the inside of those gates personally.  As a new course they'll be due for a re-rate next year, so maybe then.  In the meantime, I'm not eager to part with the dollars they're charging!

Good clues in any case.  San Martin - correct.  Morgan Hill is adjacent.

VERY good one.   Way to go, Scott!

I remember at least two people saying they've played it.  Gib I think and another NoCal guy?  Bob H?  Joel S?

Here's more ground pics:

Scott:  I'm sure a few who post in here have played it.  A lot of magazine raters made it a point to see it as I recall.  I'm pretty sure Bob Huntley has indeed played it also.

Great pics!

I've played it - but didn't recognize it.  I didn't like it all that much, so nothing stood out in my mind as a landmark.

$390 to play a course littered with cart paths?  Aargh...

That's $390 + Caddie Tip (Why the hell can't anyone just tell me what something costs?)  Pine Valley can.

H:"The caddie is $65, Bill.  No more,no less allowed".

B: "Thank you".

I assume the suckers  line up to pay this for this.... this "experience".  The French would never charge this much.  Is a hooker included?

Anyone wonder why I kick California in the ass so gleefully?

Any further questions?

Actually redanman, you might indeed chalk this up as a positive for CA when you realize they charge that much so that they can look the city planner in the face and say they ARE living up to their "making the course available to the public" covenant.  No one actually pays it, nor do they expect anyone to.

You are a capitalist, right?   ;)

I played it on an expense account, I might add.  I didn't actually pony up the $350+ or whatever it is.

Undcerstood all too well, DG - expense account users are their targer paying customers!

I seriously can't imagine ANYONE shelling out their own money for Cordevalle.  Not at that rate, anyway.

And they don't care at all what I think, that's for sure!

Arguably off-topic, I suppose, but ...

The abuse of expense accounts is one of the great scandals of modern America (including modern American golf).

Yes, I don't have an expense account.

Yes, that's why the truth of my first statement is so obvious to me.

I do wonder: Don't ludicrously overpriced things aimed at ludicrously overstuffed corporate officers, who are ludicrously underconcerned with economy and ludicrously overwilling to pay ludicrous prices with other people's money, make anyone else a little sick to the stomach?

Jeez, I'm startin' to sound like a Democrat! But, then again, even a blind donkey finds a pig every so often.
