You know the course is great when it is raining sideways, mid-50's and I am dressed up like Kenny (from South Park) and I still had a great time playing.

I am counting the hours to this weekend.

Ya'll should be in for ideal conditioning. I was there today after a soaking last night. As long as it stays dry (no more rain and Dave loses the keys to the system),  Saturday should be humming out there. What should be interesting is the mind screw of having it green but firm.

Matt,

GREAT pictures and thread.  These pics should all be framed and sold.  Beautiful.

I also LOVED reading your recent blog post on your trip to Ballyneal.  That was really excellent and from my perspective it was fairly easy to imagine what it was like being there with you guys that weekend.  Harris' catching lightning and firing back with the 73 to win dinner that night ('yes, I'll have the lamb' ;D) was just fun to read!  Good on you Harris!

You're a good writer, Matt.  I look forward to reading part II.

Eric,

Thanks for the compliments!  And yes, I think Harris even ordered it like you wrote, with a trace of a snotty, blueblood accent. :D

I just wish you could have made it to Ballyneal yourself that weekend - it must have been tough for you to cancel.  And I'm still holding you to that birthday drink you promised me! ;)

Matt,

How right you are...that was tough.:'(  I moped for days.  Still am, for another couple of great weekends I have had to back out of too since that one.  I'm hopeful that I'll be back swinging it again here soon and make a trip out there at the end of August.

And yes, I owe you that birthday drink plus another for my broken promise - next time my friend.  Better yet, I'll buy you those drinks and then play you for dinner! ;D

This is painful.  Here I sit watching the peloton explode over the Col de la Croix, wishing I was somewhere else.  All my best GCA friends--save two or three--are in Holyoke.  Some questions...

1) How's it playing?
2) Who is taking Andy "Mad dog" as their caddie?
3) Did Rupert break out his guitar?
4) Did Choi break out his voice?
5) Has Jim fixed his duck hook?
6) How's Bernie enjoying the view?

This is the worst I've felt yet in missing a GCA trip.  Miss ya guys.

Add to those questions please:

7) Is Charlie Mulligan wearing his reading glasses?   ;)

Colton shot 73 today to easily win his match!!! That is his best score by 6 or 7 strokes!!!

We are all having a great time and Ballyneal is absolutely in fantastic shape, though the greens are as soft as I have ever seent them due to recent rain. The course is lush and green, but still great for ground game.

1) Probably the best it's ever been in my opinion.  The staff had it set up fairly easy on day 1 then took it up a notch with the pin placements on day 2.  Greens were rolling at a speed that let us use the slopes as they were intended - great stuff!
2) I had Andy for the first round Saturday morning - he double bagged for me and my partner.  We had him a little worried right from the get go as I usually miss left and my partner usually misses right.  Fortunately for him we played well and he didn't have to venture out into the native on many occasions.
3) Alas, Rupert was not to be found over the weekend.
4) Can't answer that for sure, but I heard rumors that it was ;D
5) He shot 73 in round 1, so something must have been working well.  Played with him and Wyatt H. the final round and he can hit it a mile.

The golf course was in as good a shape as I've ever seen it.  It's just a marveolous course for match play.  The staff took great care of all of us as well.

Jim, thanks again for putting this all together.  You were a wonderful host!

Richard, Dave did small tine aerating Wednesday. That was likely the main reason they seemed softish. Add the big rain Wednesday night and you have the softest greens you've seen.

Matt - I went through all these pics and it brought back a flood of excellent memories.  Thanks to all GCA-ers for a great weekend with decent golf and better conversation.  Look forward to another GCA trip and seeing you guys again.

The next question is when are we going back??
