1. Verticut down and back, 2 directions.
2. Mow greens with brush down
3. Vertidrain
4. Aerify with 3/4" tine on 1.5" spacing
5. Clean green
6. Topdress by hand
7. Roll/brush 2 directions
8. Graden with 2mm blades
9. Clean green
10. Roll/Brush

About 25% effected surface area in 1 aerification

What is your logic/reason for aerify before graden?

I wont speak for Tony but Ive Gradened before aerification and the aerifier would pick up little squares of the green created from Gradening 2 directions. Its easy and safer for a Graden to slice through aerification holes.

Only graden in one direction prior to aerification. Our concern or thought process was material from the graden egtting into the aerification holes moreso than material from the aerfication being a probelm following the graden.

We aerify BEFORE the graden for some of the reasons above. Filling the aerification holes with sand BEFORE the graden ensures that sand is going into the holes, not thatch and organic. Running the graden AFTER aerification allow us to make sure the we are not removing areas where the graden has already been. After the graden has been through, we cleam the surface with levelawns and blowers. I will get a pic up when I get a minute.

Sorry Anthony - You could have responded by saying please read carefully. I was not picking up on the sanding prior to the graden even though it was right in front of me.  

How soon after the process are you playing?

How did you like your former club's Club Champ's showing in the US Senior Open? Thought he would play a little better than he did. Oh well, pretty nice just getting there really.

As to recovery time, I once heard that it's shorter up north than here down south.  Could that be true?  I played a top notch course in Mass. just days after aerification and was pleasantly surprised at how well the ball rolled.

Tony, the pictures you posted together with the simple explanation make for a fine Aerification 101.  I wonder if posting something similar in a prominent space at your club would benefit the members and/or make them less prone to being cranky.
