It turns out that Geoff's first design job will be Bonnie Doon GC in Sydney, which coincidentally I became a member of yesterday, the very day that the firm was presenting its renovation plan to the members.
It was a fascinating few hours hearing Mike and his associates Michael Cocking and Ashley Mead speak about their plan for the course, which they seem quite confident can be lifted from outside the Aussie Top 100 to inside the Top 25.
Mike was a man in demand, so I didn't get the chance to say hi, but I spoke at length with Michael and Ashley, who are two really articulate and interesting fellas who were really generous with their time.
To my eye, looking at the plan, the result could be something out of the mould of The Berkshire (with fewer trees) - lots of undulation, great short par fours, par 4.5 holes aplenty across varying terrain, interestingly bunkered mid length and short par threes...
Work starts in May and the conservative estimate for completion is March 2012 - that's for five renovated holes and two brand new holes. After that the rest of the course gets the treatment, though there is not yet a timeline for that.
Really exciting times.
