Old Mac Pics Request
« on: May 31, 2010, 09:23:59 AM »
For the contigency that is out there right now, can you snap some pics of the surrounds while you are at it?  The clubhouse, pro shop, road into Old Mac, new Pacific Dunes clubhouse etc.

I realize we will get pics from all the holes but I am hoping for others to get the whole picture.

I broke my arm so it is going to be a long while before I get to see this place and I am just jonesing for a taste.

Thanks in advance.

My POS camera fizzled out mid-round so I didn't take many photos.  Here are a few...

I hesitate to make this my first post on this site for the following reasons:
1. I took these with an iPhone so the quality doesn't do the course justice
2. I have no photographic/artistic talent, see 1
3. There are some photos that won't mean anything to most of you

That said, enjoy/open at your own risk:

I played Old Mac on back to back days May 15th and 16th.  The afternoon of the 15th was cool and very windy and the morning of the 16th was sunny and still.  I truly enjoyed the course both days and found it to be extremely playable and enjoyable in both situations.

Awesome.  Thanks guys.  I love the look of the clubhouse.  And, gotta love the lightweight Friar's Head bag.

For a second there I thought that was Brad Klein in the all orange ensemble.

Thanks again and keep em coming.

Thanks for those pics.  Some of them are quite good.

And welcome to GolfClubAtlas.

Pretty stinking cool.  Two of the dudes I would MOST want to go around with on my first full time at Old Mac.

I think I speak for many of us back in our living rooms that we wish we could be experiencing this with you guys.

Observing the pure joy that Gib had viewing Old Macdonald was really awesome! It was like experiencing Christmas through the eyes of your kids. (Except your kids use less colorful lanuage to say: "This is so #@$ing cool! "

Gib had a role in planting the idea of a Macdonald tribute course with Mike Keiser. Then he sent a copy of the Evangilist, which lead to Georges Bahto's involvement

I hope Gib is up there getting some due for his ideas regarding Old Mac and also his involvement with Evangelist.  Meeting him and Michael Robin in the same week was one of those times that your faith gets restored in humanity a little.  Even if Gib told me I sucked at putting. ;D

Sorry I missed the trip and the opportunity to spend some time with Gib.

How did the greens putt ?

How was the weather ?

How was the wind ?

How is the condition of the golf course ?

How did Ran play ?

Sorry I missed the trip and the opportunity to spend some time with Gib.

How did the greens putt ?

I loved them, but a few guys complained they were slower than the other courses. I'm sure that will change over time.

How was the weather ?

Weather was perfect, not a drop of rain despite a horrible forecast.

How was the wind ?

Light by Bandon standards. 15-30 for two of the afternoon rounds only.

How is the condition of the golf course ?
Exellent
How did Ran play ?
Great with hickories, not so good with steel :)

As an aside, Ran led a GREAT discussion with Tom Doak and George Bahto about the building of Old Macdonald that everyone on this site would have loved!

Although the much-hyped hickory match didn't transpire, Ran was in top form.  Very impressive.  He uses the Redan club well.

Otherwise, Bill Brightly has the most boring golf game in America.  Fairway, green, par. Fairway, green, par. Fairway, green, birdie... ;)

Playing with Anthony, Gib and Bill with George Bahto watching on at spots was a true pleasure.  I can't remember having that much fun on a golf course.

The resort is buzzing tonight with the opening tomorrow.  Should be a good day.

The 10th hole, Bottle, has the coolest transition from fairway to green I have ever seen. The photos do not do it justice. I hit an excellent driving up the narrow right side, missing the center bunkers and had this shot from about 190:

We were all stunned by the genious of how the mounds just seemed to meld into the putting surface
