Wiggles:
Did you see Gonzaga? Their big men were very good this year. I know you are depressed because Michigan has been buried under the Spartans for as long as most care to remember, but when you want to spout facts - at least get them right.
Gonzaga's first 5 games:
Loss to Illinois at Illinois
Beat NCAA bound Montana
Great AK Shootout where they beat TX, St. Johns
Lost to Marquette in the final.
That is 3-2 versus NCAA tournament teams, not 1-3. Don't count the Wyoming loss, as 64 teams will end their season to an NCAA qualifier. If you won't count it against Duke, Maryland, or Kansas, don't count it against Gonzaga.
Their conference schedule is what it is. They went 2-1 versus the L.A. Champions. and swept the rest. Don't kid yourself. Michigan State would NOT have gone 28-3 with anybody's schedule.
"History is irrelevant?" Not when scheduling. You cannot fault a team for scheduling a perennial power several years in advance and then catching them in a down year. Gonzaga defeated Washington, Washington State, Fresno State (picked to be Top 15 in most preseason pubs), St. Joes (consensus Top 25 preseason), and New Mexico.
Marquette?
"If you eliminate pre-season tournaments?" Why would you do that? Sure, if you eliminate Maryland's win over Duke it isn't as impressive either. Tennessee, Indiana, and Gonzaga showed up to play, tried, and lost to Marquette. Where's the fraud.
Good teams beat the teams they should beat. The only ding on Marquette's resume was a loss the second time they played E. Carolina - and we all know that conference games are tough, especially on the road, because coaches can make adjustments.
My only point is that FRAUD is way too powerful of a word. Any team NOT in the Top 10 when Marquette was had holes just as big that needed to be overlooked. If Florida and Illinois were so good, why did they lose so much?
