The course was Howick in the eastern suburbs of Auckland.  It has some great views but is pretty short by normal standards.

Did he fall or was he pushed?

I ask only because of the mention of the golf cart.

Can anyone alibi for Melvyn at the time of the "accident?"

Some days you play golf, some days you find things.

I'm not really registered, but I couldn't find a symbol for certifiable.

Hope it was a pro V1.  lol, if your dumb enough to fall off a cliff looking for a ball.  You might just deserve it.

I just remembered Pacific Dunes #4.  Go too far right there and you're looking at a pretty scary drop. (I'm afraid of heights)

I really don't know what the exact circumstances were or why he did what he did but yesterday in the Baily Cup at Merion, and I think in the afternoon foursome competition, one of the competitors from Pine Valley did a full-blown swan dive with all his clothes and shoes on into the creek to retrieve his ball or whatnot. This led Pine Valley team captain Marucci to get up at the dinner and award this man a special prize of a snorkel and water wings!

Personally, I think the moral of that particular act of ball retrieval is something my mother used to say:

"If America ever loses its true eccentrics they will be done for."

Tom, let me be the first to thank you for carrying on this tradition.

Kindest regards,

Mike

His fall was short?  Or the course is short?

Thank you Michael H. I have become increasingly proud of and comfortable with my eccentricities!  ;)

Thank you again, MichaelH, I totally appreciate that as long as you don't ask to kiss me full on the lips----that ain't one of my eccentricities yet.
