DC this Sunday, what are the options?
« on: April 15, 2010, 04:53:29 AM »
A fellow Royal Cinque Ports Board member, Walton Heath member and Hon. Sec of the Ethiopian Golf Association is in DC on business and looking for a place to play on SUNDAY.

I doubt his Ethiopian links provide a diplomatic passport so what are his options?

Public-wise, there's Lake Presidential, Westfields, Whiskey Creek, Stonewall, Blue Mash as the best of the $100+ daily fees.  Otherwise, he's got to know somebody or pretend to be interested in fulltime membership at a place that needs business?

Whiskey Creek has a twilight rate for $69 on weekends for those who are interested.  I think I would play there just to play around the ruins in the 18th fairway.

Mark:

I would have been happy to host him at my club, but I will be out of town.  I suspect, though, that a call or letter from someone from Royal Cinque Ports would get him on a number of the private clubs in the area.  I would start with Columbia CC b/c of location, quality, and possible receptivity to such a request.

With respect to public courses, if he's staying in the city (which I suspect is most likely), I would recommend Westfields, which is much closer than Whiskey Creek; somewhat closer and (IMHO) much better than Blue Mash; and somewhat closer and with less housing than Stonewall.  I haven't yet played Lake Presidential, which is a similar distance and apparently pretty good.

You're welcome. He should also know that even the closest of these courses is some 20 miles from downtown.

I tried off line but I will be glad to host him at my club if he wants to walk with myself and my son at my club on Sunday at 1:00
