As of April 25 we have 32 registrations and 2 alternates.

If you are interested in participating in the 2010 Dixie Cup go ahead and register as an alternate... if space becomes available we will accept the alternates in the order in which they are posted on our registration spreadsheet. Currently, Joel Zuckerman is the 1st alternate.

If only the Dixie Cup were held in June.  Carolina is stunning right now with the fescue in peak form...

Ok, so I'll need to know the best BBQ places in the area...  the research starts NOW!

The are better up the road in Lexington. For the life of me I can't remember the names of the places though. Could drive you right to them, for whatever that is worth. Lexington has pretty much the best BBQ in the state.

Just saw Lexington Barbeuce profiled on the Food Network. It's supposedly a quite legendary place.

I was pondering playing Fort Mill as well while in Charlotte for the Dixie Cup. Has anyone played it? I understand that 9 holes are Ross....

I prefer the course when it is brown. ;)
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Hey, what gives?  The organizers have placed themselves on the reserve list.  I am happy to bail if these guys will play.  Some of the enjoyment of this kind of thing is getting to play with a member.  I know Ed and Roger are doing the polite thing, but really...

Sean,

Since we have a finite number of playing positions (32) Ed & Roger do not want to prevent visiting GCA'ers from having the chance to play. They would rather come out to support the teams than take two of the valuable playing spots that could be filled with guests.

We ALWAYS have last minute cancellations. Chances are they will get to play.

Looking forward to seeing you on this side of the ocean!

Bump.

Michael,

I regret that I must cancel due to a conflict.  I apologize for doing so but hopefully this creates an opportunity for someone else to take advantage of your generous organization of this event.

Well, since this has been bumped, it's reminded me that I have to drop out of this year's event as well.  Starting a new job in the next few days and I'm not sure they'd be too accomodating to me wanting to go golf for a week when I've only been there a month.  Sorry I'm going to miss, but hopefully someone can take my spot.
I still like Greywalls better.

As a local with (hopefully) plenty of opportunity to play these courses, I'll gladly limit my involvement to social functions and general "hanging around" in order to free up a playing spot for someone on the waiting list.

Whit knows to replace me as I am a last minute guy right now. In the weeds at work which is a good thing. It is a possibility and The Dixie Cup really is an awesome event for those on the fence.

Can't imagine it affects anyone but me but I'll be doing the weekend portion only (Sat+Sun) in this year's Dixie Cup. Friday is a no-go for me, alas.

I just sent this email to everyone who has signed up for the Dixie Cup...

Quote
Dixie Cuppers, I'm working on golf for Thursday, October 21, the day before the official start of the Dixie Cup.  The following guys expressed an interest on the signup sheet in playing that day:

Mark Pritchett
Michael Whitaker
Morgan Clawson
D. Hart Huffines
Jon Heise
Jamey Bryan
Steve Wilson
Chris Sturges
Mike Hendren
Bill Steele
Joel Zuckerman
Kris Belcher
Lou Duran
Kenny Baer
Cory Lewis
Ben Kodadek (alternate)

I'd appreciate it if those listed above would reply to this email to confirm your interest AND let me know when you expect to be available to play.  If there is anyone else that didn't originally express an interest in playing Thursday but would like to, feel free to reply and I will add you to the list.

We're less than 4 weeks away.  Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Thought I would post it here for those who check the website more often than their email.  Thanks in advance for your replies!

There have been a number of Dixie Cup cancellations in recent days.  We now have 4 full spots available (as well as some individual day fill-in spots) for an event that was full and then some only a few days ago.  All of the current alternates have requested to remain in the bullpen for the time being.  So if there is anyone who didn't sign up previously because of the long waiting list or for any other reason, now is the time to register.

Also, Roger has lined up Belle Acres Country Club for dinner Saturday night.  Belle Acres is a private club and a local institution, but a bit hard to describe.  So I will just link you to their website... http://www.belleacres.com/index.html  I am confident that everyone will have a blast.

I have some FANTASTIC news for those who were smart enough to sign up for Thursday golf before the Dixie Cup.  Charlotte Country Club has graciously agreed to host us that day.  As I am sure you are aware, Charlotte CC just hosted the 2010 US Women's Amateur and received Golf Digest's most recent best remodel award (http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-courses/2010-01/bestnewremodel).  So this is quite the coup.  We have four tee times from 12:20-12:50 on Thursday afternoon the 21st.  Each group will play with a member that is familiar with the club's restoration efforts.  So it should be very informative in addition to a lot of fun.  After golf, the plan is to have a cookout at the club.  Anyone who is coming into town Thursday but can't make it in time for golf is welcome to join us for the cookout.  You just need to let me know you plan on doing so as soon as possible so that we can get an accurate headcount.  I am still working on some details and do not have an exact cost breakdown at this time, but I expect it will be very reasonable.  I look forward to seeing you there.

By including Charlotte CC in your plans, you may just have added the best course in the state. Ron Pritchard, who did a wonderful job restoring Mountain Ridge (site of the GCA gathering a couple of weeks ago) and Aronimink did what I believe might be an even better job at Charlotte CC. This is a "don't miss" opportunity for anyone who is going to be in the area that day.
