I've heard great things about RP's work at Charlotte, and would to see how it compares to Aronimink (CCC sure looked good on TV this summer!)  Wish I could join the event -- one of these dang years! -- hope you all have a great time

I wanted to follow up with some details on the Thursday outing at Charlotte Country Club.

The total cost, all in, is $125.  That includes golf, caddy fee and tip, and food and drinks at the cookout.  I can't begin to stress what an incredible bargain that is.  We owe a huge thanks to the club, their staff and the members I am coordinating with for bending over backwards to make the cost so reasonable.

All walkers will take a caddy and all riders will take a forecaddy.  The cost is the same.  Charlotte is a fantastic walking course and I would encourage everyone to walk if possible.  While the caddy/forecaddy fee and tip is included in the total cost noted above, you are free to give your caddy a little something extra at your option if you feel it is appropriate.  Nothing big, maybe $10 or so.

For those who can't make golf and are just coming for the cookout, the cost will be $40 for food and drink.  I can't think of many better spots to eat, drink and hang out with your buddies than on the patio at CCC overlooking the course.  So I encourage all who can to attend the cookout.  It will be a great way to connect with everyone and get the Dixie Cup started.

The plan is to end the cookout at approximately 8:00 p.m.  CCC is about 20 minutes from the airport.  So guys coming in Thursday evening need to take that into account in deciding whether they have time to make the event.

I am not sure exactly how we will handle payment.  I will follow up with another post in the next day or so when I have that ironed out.  In the meantime, let me know if anyone has any questions.

See you soon!

One other thing I forgot to mention, I did not feel comfortable asking our CCC member hosts to pay for caddies when they are doing us such a huge favor by taking time out of their schedules to host a largely unknown group.  So the $125 all in fee actually includes $20/man to cover their caddy fees and tip.  It seems to me the right thing to do.  I hope no one minds given the significantly reduced rates we have been extended.   However, please feel free to send me an IM if you have any concerns.

Gentlemen, I sent a separate email to everyone playing golf on Thursday at Charlotte CC with information about pairings and lockers.  Send me an email or reply here ASAP if for any reason the assigned tee time won't work for you.  I also need to know ASAP whether you want to walk with a caddie or ride with a forecaddie.

A few things to PLEASE remember: (i) no cell phones, PDA's, etc. (leave them in your car), (ii) do NOT change your shoes in the parking lot (the club is giving us guest lockers for a reason), and (iii) take your hats off inside the clubhouse.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.  In the meantime, let me know if anyone has any questions.

We just had a cancellation which opens up one spot for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  If anyone wants to be a last minute replacement, now is your chance to claim the last spot.  Just reply on this thread or shoot Roger or me a message.

Mike's got his whiney "I actuallybwork unlike all you gca guys" excuse already cued up.  That and he is a fool.

I should have done this awhile ago, but if anyone wants to see pictures of some of the Dixie Cup courses, just click on the following links:

Click on a picture to bring it up and then under "Actions", select "View all sizes" to see it in its largest format or "View slideshow" to play them in order.  Just don't expect to see any fescue this time of year!

Sorry, I don't have any pictures of Gaston.

Looks like a great event, and would love to attend, but between work and family obligations, just can't swing it.  Have a great time!

Gentlemen, here is the Dixie Cup information package that Roger will be sending out to all participants by email:

Roger and I have completed the field with a few non-GCA friends, most of whom are fellow members at Carolina Golf Club.  We trust you will welcome them into the group.  It is shaping up to be a great event and Roger and I look forward to seeing everyone in the next few days.  In the meantime, don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

See you soon!

First Class and tremendously well done gentlemen.

Consider my match with Pritchett on Sunday a guaranteed point for the North.

Thanks Roger, Ed, Mike, and anyone else that had any role in the planning of this excellent event.

Ed and Roger. Great job organizing what might prove to be the best Dixie Cup to date!

Thanks for the shout out, but let me quickly say that I am not the driving force behind this event. Bill McBride, John Cullum and others made the Dixie Cup what it is... and others like you have jumped in when asked to pull together an interesting event. Going forward we will need more volunteers willing to help organize future Dixie Cups.

Roger deserves full credit in that area.  As I told Mike Whitaker last week, Roger had an "Al Haig moment" a few days ago.  Information quality has improved dramatically ever since.

I have to echo everyone's comments about the detailed information provided.
This is handy in a variety of ways.

I particularly like the idea of the advance pairings and the discovery that I am scheduled to have to break two ankles since Jamey Bryant has been placed in my target acquisition radar twice.

The Dixie Cup got off to a fantastic start today.  On behalf of the entire group, I would like to thank Doak Barnhardt, Nolan Mills, Doug Buchanan, Tommy Hunter, Damon DiOrio and everyone else at Charlotte Country Club for sharing their treasure with us.  The only thing better than the golf was the incredible hospitality shown to us by the club, its members and staff.  While Charlotte has every right to be proud of their outstanding course, they can be even prouder of the way they treat their guests.  To say everyone at CCC went above and beyond the call of duty would not do justice to their efforts.  Please accept our sincerest thanks for a wonderful day!

I would like to echo Ed's remarks.  Charlotte Country Club is pure class from the membership to the staff to the golf course.  A great day.  You cannot believe how fun, wild and great the greens are.  I did not see the course prior to the restoration but the golf course they have now is really, really top notch.

Thanks again.
