Opening Day!
« on: March 18, 2010, 11:38:53 AM »
I'm playing my first round tomorrow at Beverly, here in Chicago, where we're supposed to have our fourth consecutive nice day, followed by snow, rain and rampant depression on the weekend.  Has everybody gotten out for an Opening Day round in the northern part of the country?

Cog Hill #2 yesterdy.  Glorious day.  Course was almost empty -- bad sign for golf industry??  Perfect day and golfing populace going crazy due to miserable winter, and there was no one out here?

You guys are lucky...some of us have to work!!!  :) ;) ;D

I'm 50/50 on maybe trying to sneak a couple holes in tomorrow after work, or maybe taking on the wind and rain on Saturday but that seems unlikely now.

Mark, maybe it's their pricing. I walked by my neighborhood course in Stillwater, MN, yesterday, and it looked like a full tee sheet.

Our course opened yesterday and we managed to get 6 holes in after work.

Today is a glorious day, the course will be packed. Supposed to snow 1-3 inches Friday.

Terry:
Is it easier to drive at Beverley in the spring?  When I played it was mid-summer and I felt the trees were touching across the fairways, forcing me to try to hit it lower.  Great experience,  I bet you members beat your guests regularly.

My home course in St. Catharines, ON, Canada opened at noon today, beating last year's record for earliest opening by one day.  That was almost unthinkable just two and a half weeks ago with about 8 inches of snow on the ground.

The recent warm spell here in the Niagara Peninsula has been quite remarkable.

I'm hoping to play after work tomorrow and will definitely take advantage of the planned warm weather on Saturday with a full 18 before the snow comes again next week.

Jonathan,

Good luck shooting either four under or four over at the Boles, those seem to be about the only scores available out there. Have fun, I'm sure the greens are super fast and the fairways are extremely tight. Oh the Boles...how I do not miss thee!

btw...I played my first real round of the year today at Brookside in Columbus. Not too shabby for not really touching a club for the past few months.
