Best course between Dallas and Houston

I may have to drive from Houston to Dallas in a few weeks, will probably have my clubs with me, and would love to break up the trip with some golf. What's the best course, assuming I don't want to go out of my way, but would like to break the drive up somewhat (and thus am not looking for a course in Dallas or Houston).

If you can't get on Whispering Pines it's going to be Pine Dunes. Pine Dunes is a little off 45, if you want to stay close to 45 I would say Ravens Nest in Huntsville or Old Brickyard in Ferris.

The out-laws live in The Woodlands and I have played several courses there.

Additionally - Walden on Lake Conroe was lots of fun.

   greater huntsville is a small epicenter of golf.. some nice topography.. WP (very private) is very nice indeed on n side of lake livingston!  its too bad that Waterwood Nat'l on s side of lake L is closed... http://www.waterwoodnational.com/golf/proto/waterwoodnational/  it may just be hard times..  also in Huntsville area is Elkins Lake (private)..
