Best course between Dallas and Houston
« on: March 09, 2010, 07:15:41 PM »
I may have to drive from Houston to Dallas in a few weeks, will probably have my clubs with me, and would love to break up the trip with some golf. What's the best course, assuming I don't want to go out of my way, but would like to break the drive up somewhat (and thus am not looking for a course in Dallas or Houston).
Thx,
Carl

If you can't get on Whispering Pines it's going to be Pine Dunes. Pine Dunes is a little off 45, if you want to stay close to 45 I would say Ravens Nest in Huntsville or Old Brickyard in Ferris.

You can be lucky to find a gas station, much less a golf course.

You can be lucky to find a gas station, much less a golf course.

But all the gas stations have tasty BBQ!

The out-laws live in The Woodlands and I have played several courses there.

Additionally - Walden on Lake Conroe was lots of fun.

Thanks for the thoughts.  Sam, what's the story on Whispering Pines?  Is it deserving of its ranking in the Dallas MN?

 8)  greater huntsville is a small epicenter of golf.. some nice topography.. WP (very private) is very nice indeed on n side of lake livingston!  its too bad that Waterwood Nat'l on s side of lake L is closed... http://www.waterwoodnational.com/golf/proto/waterwoodnational/  it may just be hard times..  also in Huntsville area is Elkins Lake (private)..
