I think you could do a lot worse than a day at Misquamicut.

I would think the Newport will not be terribly firm and fast in May, but not terrible either.

Newport National is sort of Newport CC-lite...same idea, but modern.  I would guess it's one of Arthur Hills's best efforts, and there are several places that make the course feel much older.

Misquamicut is a great layout, but one of the most private places in the US, on par with Myopia.

I think everything else worth mentioning in RI has been said...not much after NNational for publics, save for Triggs Memorial, the Ross muni in Providence, which is pretty neat.  All the Ross privates are decent, even though I have only played Misquamicut and NCC.  You can't go wrong with Metacomet, Sakonnet, Agawam Hunt, Wannamoisett, Potowamut, Wanumetonomy, or Point Judith...all are private though.
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

Niall, wanumetonomy ( Raynor) is a ten minute ride from newport and worth a round as well. They have done some nice tree clearing to open up views of the bay.

Newport is at the top of the list as others say, and should be quite when you are here. If you plan on playing during the week i may be able to join you for a round as i live in Newport. Newport national is fun as well.

I work for one of the founders of Newport country club, and we found tho original Ross and Tilly plans in the attic rolled up in a box and a copy is now in the hallway of newport cc. we found a set of william davis Hickory golf clubs as well. From the plans it looks like a complete redo and tee boxes were moved as well. Not sure why they brought in tilly so soon.

I've never played there, but from watching the CVS Classic, I've always thought Rhode Island CC had some pretty neat holes. The little par 3 by the water looks incredible.

RICC does look good. Anyone know the access/availability of guest play?

Matt, who are the founders of Newport CC? If you are more comfortable you could respond directly to me rather than post. Also any more detail to that story about the original plans?

jay, while it looks close its hard to get from Newport to Putnam and i would guess it would be a 90 min drive.

Wanumetonomy (Raynor) is apparetly close, how does it compare to NCC as a course?
